More shoulder surgery set to interrupt Fyfe's preseason

By Shayne Hope / Wire

Fremantle star Nat Fyfe will miss the start of the AFL club’s pre-season training block after undergoing further surgery to repair his injured right shoulder.

Fyfe underwent season-ending reconstructive surgery in late July and had recently “plateaued” in his recovery, according to Dockers football manager Peter Bell.

The setback prompted a scan which revealed further damage to the dual Brownlow Medal winner’s shoulder.

Fyfe had surgery again on Tuesday and will not return to training on December 6 when his fellow senior players resume.

The Dockers have not yet put a time frame on the 30-year-old midfielder’s recovery.

“(The latest scan) indicated that there was a small crack in the bone block that forms the basis of these types of surgery,” Bell said.

“We all know how diligent Nat is and he was complying with his program very well, however, these bone block fractures are known complications of this type of surgery.

“As a result, Nat has undergone a revision of the surgery.

“Whilst it is disappointing, we know that he will be incredibly diligent in his recovery and a return-to-training date will be advised in due course.”

Fyfe is crucial to Fremantle’s plans of returning to finals next season after a six-year absence.

The Dockers finished 11th last season, one win and percentage outside the top eight.

Only Reece Conca. He was very successful as a small defender but JLo is showing a propensity for taking a set against certain players. I don't like that. Having said that, there was no longer a spot for him in our best 30 but I would have loved him to be providing leadership at Peel. Freo's depth, when fitness allows, has balance in all areas. Just draft.

Suns main position of need is key defender, so getting a kid with 10 games WAFL experience is a wise move. He’d be 6th or 7th banana on the current Suns list, but in 2 or 3 years that could be a different story. Bodhi Uwland is a gun though. Plays like Luke Hodge, according to ESPN’s Chris Doerre.

Peel went up North to chat to one of their other players and he told them about Brock. He played mainly in deep defence but when Lloyd Meek was brought up to replace the injured Lobb, Brock was used in the ruck in tandem with Broadbent a 203cm 16 yo.

Don, can you tell me much about Sandy Brock from Peel? Suns have blindsided everyone by picking him through the NT Academy

That’s true if he’d kicked straighter in ‘13 gf, they might’ve won but let’s not blame poor kicking equals poor footy, let’s blame Stevic like Fonz Freo has for years
