VOTE: Wallabies player ratings vs Scotland

By The Roar / Editor

The Wallabies’ winning streak has ended at five with a 15-13 loss to Scotland at Murrayfield, in the early hours of the morning Australian time.

Did you burn the midnight oil and catch the full game? Or have you spent the morning avidly watching the replay while shielding yourself from any spoilers? Either way, it’s time for you to run your eye over the entire Wallabies’ 23 and give them each a score from 1 to 10.

If you need a rough guide as to what each score means:

1. Had he not played, the team would have been better off. Negatively affected the performance of the side. May God John Eales have mercy on his soul.
2. Anonymous. Was he even there?
3. Did some things that you expect a player to be able to do, but did a whole bunch of other things that sucked.
4. Was passable in patches, but not up to standard in a match of such importance.
5. Performed his role without anything really noticeable happening.
6. Good.
7. Pretty good, actually.
8. Very good.
9. Excellent.
10. Extraordinary. Calling them man of the match would be an insult.

What did you make of the Wallabies’ returning trio Rory Arnold, Kurtley Beale and Will Skelton? Izaia Perese catch your eye on debut? Did James O’Connor do enough to not leave you longing for Quade Cooper’s presence at 10?

Check out the form below, make your judgements and hit submit!

Hooper was our best player in the France series. Lolesio won us one of the games through some solid kicking but we only just won that game and series. He didn't run the backline at all and it was night and day to see the way Cooper ran it. England will eat him alive.

I hate the ads as well. They keep coming up and taking half the screen. Noah was our best player in the France series, if anyone has been unconvincing all year its Paisami. If it makes a difference I'd actually put JoC at 12 outside Noah because Paisami has been poor all year and I think there needs to be at least one experienced back other than White on the field.

Absolutely- whilst Aus will be disappointed, I was thinking that both teams needed to play this game to really learn about themselves for 2023. A loss by 2 points means nothing in the scheme of things

I don't think we were as beaten in the forwards against the All Blacks as we have been the last few weeks. Particularly against Japan our forwards were slow and absent. Against Scotland that was the source of a lot of our problems. Noah hasn't been at all convincing this year. These ads on the roar are driving me insane.

Which was a big part of Noah's problem against the All Blacks, Tates service in all 3 of those games was worse than Whites on the weekend.

Noah was behind a beaten forward pack with worse service against the All Blacks yet still looked better each game than JoC did against the Scots.

What kind of madman would start Noah against the English? As poor as JOC was, although I think he was behind a much beaten forward pack... Noah is going to be worse.

I give JOC the benefit of doubt as he was on the receiving end of Nic Whites worst game. Hard to get a back line moving when your scrum half could not hit the braid side of a barn with a pass.

Beale should be replaced with JoC on the bench. Noah to start. JoC was so ineffective that our backs looked better when Ikitau was playing first receiver.

Surprising score Paddy, you are usually very objective about Hoops.

There are 3 blokes who, on performance, don't deserve to be in the team. JOC, Hunter P and Jordan P. Unfortunately, injury prone Jordan is unlikely to ever reach his potential. The other 2 are simply not good enough but the cupboard is bare so will probably get another shot against England.

That is about it. Skelton was a bust in my book. I think his scrum work was great and he was getting around the field a bit more than he use too. Offered nothing Swain or Phillip cannot IMO but we lost a line out option when he came on. Arnold was a rock star and he and Roda have to be the starting pair moving forward. It is hard to tell if the back line missed cooper and Karevi with White having such a bad outing. Beale should and probably will be replaced with Noah on the bench next week.

As good as AAA is around the ground, I think Tupou has overtaken him as the starter (assuming he recovers ok), particularly if Skelton is going to give you extra punch off the bench. That being said, Arnold looked world class while Skelton just looked big. White had an off night, but he can turn it around next week. Paisami had a few big moments, but after seeing what a great 12 brings to the team he’s just not there yet. Ikitau was fantastic though, and has 13 on lock. Kellaway is just average at fullback, and I can’t see Petaia bringing much to the wing. I expect Perese will take his spot next week, and would like to see Petaia given a short run at fullback from the bench. Finally, you got exactly what you expect from Beale. His decision making was always 50/50, but he didn’t look like he’d matured like Cooper or JOC during his brief cameo. I just don’t see what he brings to the team right now. Wallabies definitely could have won, there’s a good team in there and they defended well, they just need to focus more when attacking and show a little patience.

Hooper was immense, his work rate is inhuman. Anyone unbiased watching with two open eyes can clearly see he's world class, and to think otherwise is just insane.

Hooper was excellent, as was Rodda and Leota. Think Paisami's criticism is very unfair, he was titanic in defence. Much of his attacking misflair is perhaps linked to JOC's tactics of kicking deep and playing joué at the wrong time. Ikitau also was tremendous too, he's come a long long way in defence and looks test class. Perese was very good too.

Scrum penalties, the TMO and the home crowd were the difference. It was good quality performance for a team that looked like a barbarian outfit. I liked the Wallabies tackling. Rennie gave them 10 points start when he put Tupou on the bench.

I was surprised about how high I scored individuals overall. It’s further cemented my belief that cohesion was a issue and the wallabies didn’t play well as a team as they could have. We really miss QC and Kerevi. We got monstered at the breakdown. The backrow secure front foot ball enough. I know it’s not them only of course but it wasn’t good enough. I have a feeling the player ratings will be worse for the England match.

I don’t like how he talks to the referrees recently. His captaincy skills have gotten much better but his dealings with refs is terrible.
