KISS lights up AFL Grand Final pre-match entertainment but Seven under fire for cutting away from guitar smash

By The Roar / Editor

KISS lit up the MCG prior to the AFL Grand Final but host broadcaster Channel Seven is under fire after not showing Paul Stanley’s trademark guitar smash.

The veteran US rockers had the capacity crowd on their feet with their performance of I Was Made For Lovin’ You, Shout It Out Loud and Rock and Roll All Nite.

But when Stanley started whirling his guitar in the build-up to smashing it on stage, Seven switched camera angles to a drone above the ground, robbing the TV viewers of his spectacular finale.

Despite their advancing years, KISS belted it out their three mega hits to live up to their pre-game promise of there being “no meat loaf on the menu” in reference to the now departed former US singer who put in one of the worst performances of all time in 2011.

Stanley, Gene Simmons, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer did well in their painted make-up and elaborate costumes with the scorching temperatures exacerbated by the on-field pyrotechnics.

An army of children dressed up as KISS to dance on the field while the rockers belted out their set.

Kiss is a theatrical rock show. So too.....Alice Cooper. So too.....Pink Floyd.....the Wall.....that was pure theatre. The modern 'theatrical' rock show.....P!nk......

I didn't get KISS. All the showmanship is crazy. PF, Supertramp, LZ, U2, PJ, Stones, Beatles. Love Hunters n Collectors, Just musos doing their stuff.

I felt a bit sorry for Mark Seymour having to follow KISS, like their music but it fell a bit flat. KISS weren't perfect but it was a great show and any critics have to remember what they will be like at 70.

Led Zeppelin without John Bonham. I don't think so Rowdy, even though his son Jason isn't a bad drummer.

I could imagine these nerdettes trying to listen to KISS. But LZ and Stones were better. I reckon they should get whats left of the Beatles, L Zep, the Stones & the Wilburys together.
