It’s QClash time in the sunshine state as the Brisbane Lions battle the Gold Coast Suns badly needing a ship-steadying win. Follow along with the action here on The Roar with live scores from 3:10pm (AEST).
Equal premiership favourites just a fortnight ago, the Lions’ chances have been dealt a series of blows since then. Consecutive losses to St Kilda and Brisbane, plus a season-ending knee injury to key forward Eric Hipwood, has suddenly seen Chris Fagan’s team slide to fifth, with plenty of work to do to wrestle their way back into the top four.
Young midfielder Jarrod Berry returns to the team, as does lockdown defender Callum Ah Chee. Fringe youngsters Keidean Coleman and Jaxon Prior have been dropped.
They’ve had the wood over the Suns in recent times, though, with their last QClash defeat coming back in 2018, and will be confident of continuing that streak.
The Suns might also have lost in Round 18, but lost no admirers with a gutsy performance against the second-placed Western Bulldogs. Before that, consecutive upset wins over Richmond and GWS suggested Stuart Dew’s team might finally be on track after far too long in the wilderness. They do, however, lose wingman Brandon Ellis to a hamstring strain and goalsneak Nick Holman with a likely season-ending internal injury; running backman Oleg Markov returns to the team.
Central to the Suns’ surge has been star midfielder Touk Miller, whose work rate and outstanding dedication have him bumping shoulders with the AFL’s elite. The Lions will have to find a way to curb his influence, or he could lead the Suns to a third victory in four outings.

Congrats man you fought back real well. Not the sort of start you want to be giving up but it does show something.

Because it’s poor sportsmanship to blame umpires. For every ‘mistake’ you’d point out that went against your side, someone else can point out as many that went the other way. At the end of the day umpire decisions or non decisions have so little bearing on the game. Players and coaches have far, far, far more effect in the outcome yet people never say ‘damn if my player would have disposed of the ball quicker he wouldn’t have gotten pinged for holding the ball that led to the winning goal against us’. Every player on the ground make 10x the mistakes umpires make yet it’s the umpires fault all the time. It’s childish. It’s myopic. It’s ridiculous. It’s inaccurate.

Our last month has been very ordinary… certainly didnt think we had that in us. Certainly needed the win. I still don’t think we are a contender. We well behind the top 4 teams

Nope but there were several free kicks which swung the momentum to Brisbane

lol,I know its frustrating bit it Irks me, some coaches want the shorter version of the game and then people bag them and say its a war of attrition and then people give up on their teams by half time.I just dont get it but thats me.Great win mate enjoy. You guys are far from done

What a lovely surprise to come home. At work watching the Live feed… I’ll be honest- I closed the Browser and grumpily got back to work at half time To walk in the door to be told by my Swans supporting kids the Lions kicked 13 unanswered goals- I was just a little excited
