Having won five of their last six games to jump into the eight, the Dogs have handed a debut to James O’Donnell, son of former Test cricketer Simon and who was only added to the list as a Category B rookie in April. O’Donnell, a key defender, has impressed enough in just three VFL games to earn his call-up, and will be crucial as the Dogs look to stop imposing Blues twin towers Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay.
The Blues, meanwhile, sit in eighth and have endured a week of criticism following a disappointing loss to Brisbane. Last weekend’s sub Matt Kennedy is back in the starting 22 as one of three changes, while defender Nic Newman will play after successfully overturning a one-match suspension at the Tribunal.
