The Collingwood Magpies will look to steal a win against a vulnerable Brisbane Lions team in Round 3’s opening match. Stay up to date with their AFL clash with live scores on The Roar from 7:40pm (AEDT).

Collingwood showed the AFL world they’re no spent force last week, keeping Carlton at arm’s length before kicking away to score an important early-season win. Having now evened the ledger at 1-1, they have a big opportunity to move to 2-1 – defying expectations – against a Brisbane team who’ve endured a long time away from home.

The Lions had every right to feel hard done by after an AFL-admitted blunder cost them what would’ve been a remarkable win over Geelong last Friday night. To make matters worse, the COVID outbreak in Brisbane has forced them to stay in Victoria all week and sacrifice home ground advantage for this crucial clash. They looked better in Round 2 than they did in Round 1, but falling to 0-3 would make the mountain very steep.

Brisbane broke a long losing streak against Collingwood with a narrow eight-point win in last year’s only meeting. The Pies had won six straight over the Lions prior to that and nine of the previous ten. Brisbane’s last consecutive wins over Collingwood came back in 2007 and 2008.

Yep you’re right on degoey, I think part of the problem with him is 1. Playing half forward is one of the hardest positions in AFL. 2. The uncertainty about where to play him, just play him in the forward line or in the guts.

What's new? Buckley trying to hold out and being found out. Very reminiscent of the 2018 Grand Final. Is this guy ever going to learn? I doubt it as he's stubborn, self-righteous and pig headed. Please get him out of the CLUB as soon as possible. I can't put up with his post-match sulking covered up with by a macho, stony-faced resilience. It's quite pathetic, actually. We are not going anywhere in the next five years, so let's get our ship in order because this Captain is only a shipwreck specialist.

Agree with your comments on Grundy. Elliot I reckon is a one trick pony, no defence, OK if he gets the ball. Would be better if he was 6 foot 5. As far as DeGoey I am not thinking of anything but footy here. He goes missing for long periods, does something good & is called a star. Potential plus but there are 50 or more players I would rate above him.

Even Stephenson is doing pretty well, they'd both make Collingwood's best 22.

Treloar is towelling them up, he doesn't look like he's struggling without the missus and little one too much.

Don't know the ins and outs Kane, pardon the pun, but always better keeping it in the pants when it comes to the wandering eye. Once the honey moon phase is over they're usually back to square one and time to face what it was they didn't want to face. Wonder how Dimma will go?

I gotta say watching the Bulldogs North Game today and Treloar and Stephenson are bringing Bucks' decisions last year into stark relief. Treloar has got two goals and his disposal has been exceptionally clean, Stephenson has had 14 possies to half time, the only thing to make it any uglier for the under siege coach is to have Atu Bosenavulagi make an appearance haha.

You can't play 30min of Football and expect to win with only 3 Players Grunde Mr. America Cox and Young Moore who had the world on his shoulders after his last kick But he always puts in 200%, in the first 1/4 we had a few players that looked good but went missing after we were out played and out Coached I'm Sorry Bucks I have stuck with you but Like Eddie it time to go the Club has lost direction Letting 3 Top Players go Last Night we had 2 Great Ruckman against 2 New Comers to the Ruck but our little players were jut not there Young Dacs Played well and I suppose there was a couple But the Coaching let us down Times Up Bucks Sorry.

Yeah that’s for sure particularly given the clear log jam that’s occurring from 5 to about 16.

Bucks should've kept it in his pants then Kevo, off field wouldn't have been so tough if he did

Should have taken my Grandmothers advice when I was a young boy when she said to me “I used to follow the Magpies but I don’t anymore because they just keep breaking your heart time and time again”.....she was right. It’s only round 3 but this team ain’t winning a flag for a long time with this coach and insistence on playing guys who clearly are not up to AFL standard.

But hundred point losses are far less frequent across the board. In part because of the equalisation measures taken by the league, and the fact that every development of this game has been defensively geared
