Hit by injury and a bout of gastro Collingwood are vulnerably placed heading into a crunch clash with the Gold Coast Suns on Sunday afternoon. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage from 1:10pm (AEST).
The Magpies’ ANZAC Day win over Essendon came at a heavy cost, with ruckman Brodie Grundy suffering a knee injury and forward Nathan Kreuger re-injuring his shoulder.
Both will be missing for at least the next three months, and with star Jordan De Goey and wingman Will Hoskin-Elliott both less than certain starters after coming down with gastro, the Pies could be stretched thin for key personnel.
The Suns were outclassed by Brisbane last week, but have made some encouraging signs in 2022. However, a 2-4 record is still not ideal for a team still yet to make finals in their history, and Stuart Dew’s job will come under pressure by season’s end if that drought continues.
While defender Wil Powell is a less than ideal out with a hamstring injury, this is a fantastic opportunity for the Suns. A wounded Magpies without a full-time ruckman to go up against veteran (and former Magpie) Jarrod Witts, and with some players potentially under the weather, present as ideal opponents if the Suns can grasp the chance.
If they can, it will be the second consecutive year they have bested the Pies at the mighty MCG, having won by 24 points exactly 12 months ago to the day.

What ever happened to that Gold Coast supporter who would name obscure nobodies in minor leagues a the saviour of this team. He seemed a little unbalanced.

When the best ruckman is missing you can cover their absense far more easily. A brilliant, elite midfielder (i.e. Dangerfield / Judd) is miles ahead of the brilliant ruckmen for impact

It was an Ok contest. The pies should have won by a lot more. The Suns did well and the umpiring had no say in the result.

Only if you're picking them.

Not saying Grundy doesn’t get a spot George but Cameron more than held his own. We lose a lot of the Grundy tap work to the opposition and Cameron is the better contested mark. Apparently 6 players today were hit with the flu during the week too which makes the score line look pretty good considering

Hopefully a 23 v 23 draw :silly:

Brown was good at the centre bounces. He keeps it tight and messy. Oliver Henry is a great talent and in Kevin Sheedy's words I would say play the kids. Ginnivan is enterprising but not a good look to see him berating Daicos. I thought the ball movement was good but sure makes you wonder about the Grundy contract.

Huge test mate but your team is a capable

Of course we missed Grundy!!! F--k me! Collingwood avoided Casbolt like the plague in the first half as well! But I thought it was a very good effort overall, considering all the stars that were missing.

Ollie Henry kicked 7 in the VFL and has to come back in against the Tigers. Maybe WHE to have a spell. Centre clearances remain a concern , beaten again in those. Cameron was good in the ruck and love the debut of Begg who struggled against Witts but was nimble around the ground. Tyler Brown does a lot of stuff in the clinches that doesn’t show up in stats. People will look at his stats and say he had a shocker, I’d have him in our best players. Didn’t really miss Grundy with Cameron’s work but still missing Jamie Elliott. De Goey a bit off today maybe with his gastro.

Tipped Suns for an upset.... still, not as bad as my Friday night roughie. 25points diff not too bad given q1, but it is not doing Dew any good. Might give tipping upsets a rest next round.
