The Gold Coast Suns will be looking to continue their strong recent form when they take on the St Kilda Saints at Metricon Stadium. Follow every goal with our live scores page on The Roar from 1:45pm (AEST).
This match was originally scheduled to begin at 2:10pm; however, the COVID-19 situation in Sydney forced the game between GWS and Essendon to be move back to that time slot, with this one moved 25 minutes earlier.
Wins over Collingwood and Sydney in the past two weeks have suddenly pushed the Suns within touching distance of the top eight. A third win in a row could easily see them leapfrog even reigning premiers Richmond into eighth spot.
Speaking of Richmond, former Tiger Brandon Ellis has been one of the stars of the show in the Suns’ surge. He’s averaging a career-high 27 disposals a game, racking up 35 – and 16 marks – to pick the Pies apart in Round 7.
The Saints sit equal on points with the Suns, but their dismal percentage of just 80 sees them sit 14th on the ladder. However, they too have appeared to get their season back on track in recent weeks, a monster 69-point win over Hawthorn last round just what the doctor ordered for last year’s big risers.
Look for returned ruckman Paddy Ryder to hold the keys to victory for the Saints. The tap maestro gave his midfield first use with some brilliant work against the Hawks. With the Suns still putting their trust in makeshift ruck team Chris Burgess and Caleb Graham, Ryder’s impact at stoppages could be decisive.

Its only a matter of time before we're like the USA and you'll have to pay to view any game basically. Is it about the money or the fans....i sont even need to answer that do I. Time for a tequilla night cap and bed I reckon.lol.:)

Hey mate, your team just wasn't good enough when it mattered most in the 4th quarter. Suns must have forgot games last 4 quarters rather than 3. Bit of a reality check for them today I reckon

Maybe just having Queensland based umpires so the Suns can get a little good old fashioned Vic-style bias. Surely not too much to ask?

It’s a chicken an egg debate. Umpires get upset at the vitriol they cop day in day out yet refuse to take any of the blame

Umpires will always have made mistakes & always will, it is part of the game ( unfortunately). There are far too many rules now. We don`t want to have a game that is so over- officiated

So my tips were ruined by an umpire. "umpires never impact the result" says the Geelong coach.

Didn't want to be the only one saying it. I'd go even further and say that there should be a video umpire with a direct line to the umpires. If it's high it's a free, but we didn't see that consistently paid all game.

I was on phone to my Sainters brother and even he said is was an ugly win. But a win so they bank the 4 points

Playing without a ruckman finally caught up to the Suns. Not to detract from the effort that Crab Graham puts in, but he's just not able to impact the game enough for the position he's being asked to play. The Suns have Zac Smith sitting in the stands on a VFL bye who would have won 30 hitouts and reversed the clearance dominance that St Kilda earned as the game wore on.

A win is a win. People have been sinking the boots in to the Saints ( deservedly so). They were the better side today.

The randomness in which umpires officiate is so frustrating. Why call a high tackle at the start of the game when you don't bother calling it at the end of a game? The AFL should trial the use of cameras on each field ump so they can review their decision making after each game... or at least try something, apologising afterwards doesn't help a team's ladder position.

They did plenty right for 3 Qtrs just there composure was lacking in the last Qtr, costly!

How disappointing for Suns supporters. Not only did they lose but cost their ticket holders a free Big Mac.

Is that with self raising flour?

They ground it out more than won it.
