Is there cause for hope at Essendon?

AFL Friday Footy Fix: 'Effort without system' sums up Dons, and what was up with those 150th anniversary celebrations?

Very small crowd for a club with a big membership.
Game was painful to watch and the umpires were a major feature of the game.
I suggest that each of the above issues are related. (there are other issues).
I expect that the AFL to bury its head in the sand until things are far far worse.

AFL Thursday Thought Bubble: Concussion controversy, the next Ginnivan and a 'pretty crappy' match for even the players

I tipped Lions after a coin toss. Should be a cracker of a game.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 13

Richmond, although it hurts to pick them
Carlton with zero confidence. Carlton would be in trouble if Peter gets off the leash.
Hawthorn because of the wet and the shortage of hairdryers at Optus Stadium.
Brisbane because of the HGA, but it will be close.
Toby to prevail over North.
Demons as a loyalty pick. but I think the Pies have this one.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 13

Yeah, I would still have Brisbane as #1.
The Demons will miss McDonald bigly. Tomlinson, Lever, Hunt, Bowey, Sparrow, ANB are all out of form. Petty is limping and has a bad shoulder. So, I expect a rough few weeks from the Demons.
And I also think you underrated the Pies. I am tempted to back Collingwood this week.

Round 12 power rankings: A new leader emerges

Yes. There is much to thankful for.

Freo hit Frederick with one-game ban

Pretty good Yatz.
The cats impressed me in their last game. Can they do that again?
Melbourne have suffered from the problem of not dropping under performers from a winning side.
They are now free to do that. I expect things to improve.

Round 12 power rankings: A new leader emerges

And that makes two articles by Les that I really like.
thanks Les.

The incredible weight of terrible umpiring

What should be in the AFL news is the low crowd numbers.
One wonders about the impact of rule changes of the last couple of years.

AFL NEWS: May suspended for drinking and scuffle with teammate, Hird back at Bombers, dissent back track

Alternatively, you can have Melksham for nothing.

Ginnivan's gravy train of freebies is rightly lurching to a halt now everyone has wised up to his ruse

Trade him for Rampe?

Ginnivan's gravy train of freebies is rightly lurching to a halt now everyone has wised up to his ruse

You may be correct, but we should never waste an opportunity to sink the slipper into Collingwood.

Ginnivan's gravy train of freebies is rightly lurching to a halt now everyone has wised up to his ruse

We could get over this little hurdle by changing the rules for Collingwood games.
At the start of the game give a Collingwood player 5 uncontested shots on goal and then revert to normal rules.
Non Collingwood supporters would find it less frustrating.

Ginnivan's gravy train of freebies is rightly lurching to a halt now everyone has wised up to his ruse

This bodes badly for Melbourne. I can see a rash of free kick goals heading Collingwood’s way.
(But then again, it is nothing new)

Ginnivan's gravy train of freebies is rightly lurching to a halt now everyone has wised up to his ruse

Look. He plays for Collingwood. Therefore he is always in the wrong and should not get any free kicks.
17 other clubs all agree.
End of story.

Six Points: Pile-on on 'stagers' has gone too far, and Brodie Grundy becomes the world's most expensive dead wood

Toby Ainsworth?

Six Points: Pile-on on 'stagers' has gone too far, and Brodie Grundy becomes the world's most expensive dead wood

Maybe, just maybe, protection of players from injury is a secondary consideration?
The theatre (read that as this week’s ratings) is much more important.

“Coach, are you sure you can’t find someone else to line up on Liam Ryan? Someone?”

Apex predators: Who are the seven scariest players in the AFL?

Willie Rioli and Liam Ryan (on a good day) would be daunting prospects.
Toby and Lance also have the ability to turn a game in just a few minutes.

Apex predators: Who are the seven scariest players in the AFL?

It is becoming harder to watch. Hockey, Lacrosse, Soccer, Rugby and Hurling await the adventurous.

…adds a pantomime villain element to the game that makes it even more entertaining

If that is a justification for conning the umpires and flaunting the rules then may I boldly suggest rather than award free kicks against these cheaters, we throw the offenders into the lion cage. If they’re quick enough they won’t be too seriously harmed and it would be great theatre! Great entertainment. Great theatre. Just not football.

Six Points: Pile-on on 'stagers' has gone too far, and Brodie Grundy becomes the world's most expensive dead wood

the main reason for the demons loss was that they didn’t kick enough goals.
They kept the swans to what should have been a losing score.
If Melbourne had kicked 5 goals per quarter then the demons would have won.

AFL Saturday Study: No May, no Melbourne? How magnificent Swans exposed the Dees... again

I wasn’t referring to anything specific. I thought Langdon got a raw deal all night.

AFL Saturday Study: No May, no Melbourne? How magnificent Swans exposed the Dees... again

Yes. Sam would have at least matched the number of goals kicked by the two Browns.
The trouble with Sam is VFL/AFL consistency, he seems to go missing for long periods. I’m sure he will improve over time, but I don’t think he is there yet,

AFL Saturday Study: No May, no Melbourne? How magnificent Swans exposed the Dees... again

First, I tipped the swans and thought they deserved their win. They were in control of the game for longer periods than the demons.
Yeah, we miss May, but we also miss a fit Petty.
My take on this game: Bowey made lots of bad choices, Hunt, Neal-Bullen and Sparrow need a spell in the VFL (about a year). Salem needs a couple of practice games(5 or 6).
No comment on the umpires, because I don’t understand the rules anymore. The only question that I must ask is whether Langdon killed an umpires dog during his week off?
