The Hawthorn Hawks’ keenly anticipated clash with the Collingwood Magpies has had to be moved from Tasmania, due to the state being embroiled in the nationwide COVID-19 pandemic. Follow along from this game’s new home of the MCG with live scores on The Roar from 2:10pm (AEST).

This match was set to be one of Tasmania’s biggest ever, but a single COVID-19 case in the state for the first time in a year has prompted the AFL to shift it behind closed doors at the MCG. It’s another bitter blow for the league and fans as the pandemic continues to bite footy fans.

With neither side in the hunt for finals anymore, this match serves as the beginning of the end for outgoing Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson. After four premierships, the master is in the final stretch of his epic stint at the helm – and could easily end up spearheading today’s opponents the Magpies in 2022.

Both teams are coming off impressive wins over likely finalists – the Hawks putting a dent in Brisbane’s top-four aspirations, while the Pies put the struggling West Coast to the sword. As such, this could be a far more engrossing match than 14th vs 17th has any right to be.

The Hawks will be without sharpshooter Luke Breust for this match, after the triple-premiership star suffered a knee injury against the Lions. Meanwhile, the Pies’ only change is to swap newly fit youngster Beau McCreery for Trent Bianco.

The last couple of good performance frank the positive relationship between Clarkson and Mitchell who regardless of the media's catastrophied narrative are actually working well to get the playing group improving exponentially. The contribution of players with significant experience at Box Hill underline it. My favourite bit is Conor Nash making me look like a peanut in calling for his delisting when he suddenly looks like a gun midfielder which is all down to Mitchell's coaching nouse.

With all due respect for Robert harvey...i think Collingwood need new fresh faces, including a new coach. We need a cull incl father son players. Unfortunately Treloar and Stephenson were 2 players pies could use as a platform to good things but eddie and Nathan have left this onfield bunch in a debacle. I hope a Steven King or Adam Yze come across...

It started last November at the draft and they were never able to get any traction on or off field. Going to be a long time down for the Pies imo.

I am sure the media will still spin it in a negative way for the Hawks. You can see Mitchell's influence in the game style if you watch Box Hill. Has put in a lot of work into guys like Bramble, Moore, Kosi, Nash, Morrison etc

Pies in a bit of a vacuum. No leadership or direction about the club. People are fatigued by the holding position - we need something to happen at board level or in the football department.

Looks like it's brought them together, some great building blocks in the forward and back lines going forward.

Great win Hawks! Hawthorn United! Awesome pressure all day. Mitchell, Wingard and Moore carved up the Pies like a Sunday roast. 4 out of the best 6 defenders out, not including Barass show there is plenty of exciting young talent at the Hawks and a defence to build the team around. Hawks have silenced the armchair experts and media saying the Hawks are divided and in disarray. Looks like the weight has been lifted off their shoulders. Not sure where the Pies are at, massive drop for a team that was supposed to be competing for the 8. They are a bit of a mess atm.

Am still trying to work out why Trent Bianco was dropped? One of the few Collingwood players with elite skills.
