One of footy’s fiercest rivalries resumes, as the Port Adelaide Power and Adelaide Crows do battle in Showdown XLVIII. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:40pm (AEST).

Both sides were granted a late reprieve by the South Australian government to play each other in front of a small Adelaide Oval crowd, before heading to Queensland hubs for three weeks. The stoush between Port Adelaide and Collingwood over the prison bar jumper has almost been more intense than the actual match itself.

The Power did what they needed to do in Round 1, putting the hapless Gold Coast Suns through the wringer in a clinical performance. Any win over the Suns comes with fineprint, but Port fans would have to like what they saw from both the veteran cohort and some of the youngsters.

Adelaide, on the other hand, looked scintillating in bursts against Sydney in Round 1, but went missing in the second and third quarters. Taylor Walker had an opportunity to win the game late with a tough set shot, but missed to the near side as the Crows fell short by three.

The Crows took 2019’s first Showdown by 20 points, but the Power struck back in the return meeting by 57. Adelaide have an excellent recent record in this fixture, winning eight of the last matches and nine of 13 since the move to Adelaide Oval.

Depends on the kind of rust... in your opinion, who is the problem there? It's a genuine question, because I don't follow the behind-the-scenes stuff that closely, so you're probably better-versed in it than I am. Regarding the choice of coach, I don't know enough about Nicks to judge his coaching ability, but he seems similarly qualified to the rest of the mooted candidates for the job. And I genuinely think that the disconnect between Pyke and the players was detrimental. The team have lost a few quality players in the past few years (Danger, Lever, Cameron), but they were never going to be able to hold on to Dangerfield, and I think Cameron genuinely went back to Queensland because his family is there. The huge cleanout in the off-season doesn't look good, but Keath is the only big loss there in my opinion.

Rust works below the surface doing it's nefarious work only revealing itself after it can't contain it's subterfuge any longer. I am a Crow's fan but l can't do fake. I've gotta call it for what it is.

Clearly they weren’t good enough. If they get smashed by GC next week I’ll be annoyed, but Port look good, and the trio of Rozee, Butters and Duursma are performing very well. In terms of recruitment, the fixation on Gibbs is self-evidently a failure in hindsight, and wasn’t great even at the time, but looking back a few years, 2017 was a pretty impressive season until the GF. The wheels only really fell off with the Collective Minds debacle.

They were paying that against Brissy too. (I think Margetts might have taken the shorts on Brissy). Gold Coast was paying over $6. Anyone following sport on the basis of money had better get used to having very little money.

Freo are paying over $3. You should put $1000 on it Don.

That's revisionism Don. Here's a clue: Pyke will never Head Coach again. ----- He cankered the good work Walsh had done, he brought in Mind Camp, they brought in Power Ranger stance. ------- Yes the admin is poor and they got in like-minded dilettantes like Pyke and Nicks. University-inspired failures.

That's cheeky revisionism. The powers-stance came from the Mind Camp idiocies. Pyke brought that in. FFreo would never make Pyke their Head Coach. And here's a clue neither will any other AFL Club ----- Did you never see a Pyke Presser? I've seen 15 day old custard with more life than him.

I'm hard on my own teams. Adelaide are not good enough. Our recruitment has been lacklustre and we've been losing players like Egypt lost the Israelites. Well, as far back as Rutten. ------ I agree with McLeod

A young team, a few of the older players going missing and a few injuries (they were down two of their most experienced players just after half time), and they were always going to be chasing the game. Not a good display, but if the kids get a chance to develop it won't be a wasted year.

I'd suggest everything points to the soft Crows players and Admin being wrong and Pyke being right. Get rid of Roo and solve your problems. Their problems began the moment players rebelled against Pyke. They made the GF when they followed him.

I think west coast has already done this. Suns doubled their score and I think took any chance of top five in the short season.

I don't think there'll be too many that lower Port's colours this year. And a bit percentage as well.
