Two in-form teams meet at the MCG to kick off Round 14 when Richmond and Carlton square off on Thursday night. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:20pm (AEST).
After struggling early in the season, Richmond have rediscovered their best form and compiled arguably the best past six weeks of any team in the league.
Only a loss to the Swans in late May ruins their recent report card, and with plenty of troops now back on deck and in form, the Tigers are looming as a real threat in 2022.
Nick Vlastuin has been instrumental in the resurgence, and along with a settled back six and a return to the chaos-style play that led directly to multiple premierships, those teams at the top of the AFL ladder are now looking over their shoulders nervously.
Carlton continue to excel this season, now just a win from the top of the ladder and owning a 9-3 record that many would not have thought possible in Michael Voss’ first year at the helm. The Blues have simply been brilliant through the centre of the ground all season, and with the athletic Charlie Curnow continuing to deliver on the promise he showed some years back, the side looks balanced, confident and brutal in the contest.
Curnow has his partner in crime Harry McKay back in the squad for this clash, although the loss of Adam Cerra is certainly a blow. Elsewhere there appears to be great stability in selection, and Carlton will be confident of their sixth win in seven matches, despite the recent powerful performances of the Tigers and the fact that Tom Lynch comes back into a forward group that looks frightfully dangerous.
Notably, Dustin Martin is out of the match with illness, with the Tigers hoping that the otherwise excellent current health of the squad will be enough to reverse the 26-point loss taken at the hands of the Blues in Round 1.
There are few older or more passionate AFL rivalries than this one, and tonight’s fixture will be the first for some time where both teams could be described as serious contenders for the top four; and who knows, perhaps even a flag.
Prediction
Good luck tipping this game correctly. The bookies are leaning the way of the Tigers, potentially based on their record at the MCG and their growing momentum. However, Carlton continue to show resilience and fortitude no matter what is thrown their way, and play the ground equally as well.
It looks a ripper in the making and the Blues may well be overlooked in this one, with many feeling they need to prove themselves against some of the best. Tonight will be the night.
Carlton by 7 points.

Hopefully Melbourne     . It looks like a percentage year or a St Kilda collapse, yet the Swans need also to be careful and not drop a game or two they should win.

These Tigers fans seem like sore losers and big mouths when they win. They disappear after a loss. One in particular :crying:

I note you didn’t defend any of those incorrect calls. I don’t need to.....there weren't any. You have a serious perspective issue....opening your other eye may help.
