What could have been the Joe Daniher cup will instead just be a normal Sunday arvo as the Sydney Swans meet the Essendon Bombers at the SCG. Join The Roar for live scores from 3:35pm (AEST).
The Swans got their 2020 campaign off on the right foot against Adelaide. They fought back from an 18-point quarter-time deficit to put the Crows to the sword, before surviving a goalless final quarter to emerge three-point victors. Luke Parker led the way with 30 disposals, while Isaac Heeney kicked an equal career-high four goals.
It was a similar story for Essendon, who built a comfortable lead at home over Fremantle through the first three quarters, before surviving a furious late rally to claim a narrow six-point win without skipper Dyson Heppell. Dylan Shiel was everywhere, amassing 35 disposals and nine clearances in a superb effort.
These sides split their 2019 matchups, with Dane Rampe’s controversial post-climb making headlines in Sydney’s five-point win at home, before the Bombers got revenge at the MCG with a ten-point win. Essendon have won two of the last three meetings between these sides, but have lost their last seven matches at the SCG dating back to 2009.

There will be a war before afl takes over this state. Nrl is nowhere near perfect but this is its home state not afl. Granted the past success of the swans but they are now finished and will not be any kind of a challenger for decades to come and GWS will do nothing. Afl belongs in the traditionalist states and nrl in nsw/qld

I could just say if the NRL keep mismanaging their money and their game not sure how long NSW will stay a NSW state... but I think we've all worked out some time ago that you have no interest in AFL and have just decided to troll a comments page because you have nothing better to do. Perhaps the NRL was too boring?

Just because YOU don't have any interest doesn't mean the 60,000 members of the club should be deprived of the club they follow.

Yes, I get that YOU aren't interested. But I'm curious why you think a football club that has around 60k members should disappear?

To me now personally, Afl should never have been allowed to get a foothold in this state. Does not belong in nsw. This will always be a predominately league state

I wish sadly my commentary would be far to expletive laden for that time of day

AFL is the dominant code across much of Southern NSW as far North as Wagga Wagga. Sydney have been successful for some time and GWS are starting to enjoy regular success and are based in the growth region of Sydney. But hey, you're sick of it, so maybe they should all just give up?

Mate you should have just taken over and done the call

More content with league than afl

So you’re suggesting that the area arounf Wagga Wagga should be ceded yo Victoria are you haha?

So they're more content with local leagues/VFL equivalents then, I'm assuming?

They want footy, just not necessarily afl . Afl is not number 1 in this state.

Because personally, I've lost interest , dislike it now and prefer to see money better spent on the other sports

We'll take it while it lasts????

Personally lost any interest in it as a sport and don't really think it has much chance of retaining too much support out here

Again, anything to back this claim up? Any statistics, polls etc. or is this just you talking? Also, just because you don't like footy doesn't mean the rest of NSW (yes, including Sydney) don't want footy around.

Not sure why the set shot in the 2nd happened, but I will take 5 of those if he nails every boundary set shot like that!

Why?

Why would you be happy for a football club to disappear?

It is IN nsw. It is NOT the entire state. Regardless, myself and a lot of people in country nsw would be quite happy for afl to disappear from nsw
