The Sydney Swans and GWS Giants face off in the Second Elimination Final at University of Tasmania Stadium, with the winner to take on Geelong next week. Tune into do-or-die finals footy here on The Roar with live scores and commentary from 3:20pm (AEST).
Sydney surprised us all this year with their 15-7 season, finishing sixth. Last year they could only muster up five wins. And now they’ve got to get through a knockout Sydney Derby to progress to the next stage of the finals.
The Giants finished in 7th with 11 wins and won four of their last five games, to seal one of the last few finals spots. Those wins included victories over fellow top-eight sides Essendon and Geelong, plus putting the final nail in Richmond’s coffin. Let’s not forget they began the season 0-3.
These two teams have played twice in 2021 for a 1-1 record. The Giants won by two points in April on the back of a 4.6 to 2.1 final quarter, with Josh Kelly snapping the winner in the dying minutes. Then, in July, the Giants led by 29 points at quarter time only to lose by 26 after a goalless third term where the Swans kicked six of their own to turn the game.
Prediction
This game will be spicy. The Swans have been more consistent than the Giants this season but the Giants have hit form at the right time of the year.
Both teams have a good mix of youthful talent and experienced older heads. It will come down to whether or not the Giants can continue their hard-edge form against Sydney’s run-and-gun brand. If the Swans get bogged down and forced into a scrap, it’ll give the Giants a sniff.

Every Team makes mistakes in the draft. I have never forgiven Terry "snakeoil salesman" Wallace for stuffing that draft but thankfully in the last 12 to 15 years the Tigers have mostly got it right! 3 Premierships from this group is evidence of that.

Not sure there was enough room for Jack in our forward line. As much as I hate to say it, overlooking Selwood was probably more of a gaff.

Great match to watch.Swans were coming like a bullet, but bad kicking at the goals cost them.

It looked as bad as the Williams one. He must get weeks, he can’t play in a GF so I reckon 3. 5 or 6 during the regular season

I liked Hodge as a Player but he really made himself look stupid today. Oh, and its kind of ironic that Hawthorn picked Mitch Thorpe instead of Reiwoldt in 2006 like they were going to! Bet they regret that one :stoked:

You can’t deliberately shoulder an umpire, he’s gone at least 3.

Ok I get it - you don't like Hodge and Hawthorn. Did it start when Richmond picked Tambling instead of Buddy Franklin? :silly:
Kane

Yes but only to a certain degree Pete, what he done today was stupid and arrogant and could cost his club next week. He needs to grow up a bit. I'm a huge fan of his and love watching him play but he does this crap too often.

At least Reiwoldt is calling it as it is not telling lies like that grub Hodge!
Gary

We would take him, but he still has several years to run on what will likely be his last contract. Just looked Wikipedia... we played footy and cricket in the same are... not the same time though.

That might be the case but I don’t think the AFL want to open that can of worms.

Suspending Toby would cost the AFL/Ch 7 serious money. People watch because of Toby.

I agree he's most likely gone in that case if a precedent has been set. Wasn't aware of what cotchin did last week. Doesn't matter if it was an accident if they are very strict with all that. He backs himself into a lot of corner's this Green bloke. Exceptional player but he does a lot of mind boggling things that bring a lot of unwanted attention on him.

I would have Son of Sheedy at Richmond in a heartbeat. Throwback Thursday with Tobes.
