Round 9 concludes with Melbourne returning to the scene of their 2021 premiership against the struggling West Coast. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage from 5:20pm (AEST).
The last time the Demons came to Perth, they left with the premiership cup after a 74-point thrashing of the Western Bulldogs in last year’s grand final.
That’s not on the table this time, but sitting pretty at 8-0, the Dees are unbackable favourites to win their first nine games for the second year in a row.
Unchanged from the side that dismantled St Kilda last week, it would be a surprise if the Eagles so much as gave the all-conquering Demons a good fight.
In contrast, the Eagles this week become the first team in VFL/AFL history to have no players feature in every game across the first nine rounds, providing Patrick Naish remains out of the team. Hurn and Naish were the last to have failed to miss at Adam Simpson’s team deals with COVID and injury woes and plenty of criticism of their standards.
COVID-hit trio Jackson Nelson, Greg Clark and Alex Witherden return, while Andrew Gaff joins Hurn and Naish in missing with yet another injury. It’s far from ideal for the Eagles to be taking on Melbourne in their current plight; only time will tell whether they can at least leave with some dignity intact, like they did last week against Brisbane.

I was not taken with her praising Melbourne when they were poor, not often, let it be said or disregarding the rare passages of excellence from the Eagles. Perhaps she could have mentioned West and Jones for their commitment or pointed out once or twice that the Eagles had 12 of their best 22 out and were playing the premiers. All sand through the hourglass now...

Backing Skip here. EVERYONE EVER who reads theroar for a while knows Don Freo is a troll. EVERYONE. Makes his little sniper comments and then climbs back up on his virtue high horse thinking he got the upper hand. Weak as water, and always has been. But every village needs its idiot.

If you are so worried about what you said, and the way it characterises you, ask yourself why you said it. Re: the "troll" thing, if you buy into a comment I make, the troll is not me. You'd be better off thinking before you post.

What ??? Very dramatic. Haha “that’s who you are” LOL Your funny. And Gosh your very opinionated, and so quick to judge I never really interacted with a Troll A keyboard warrior, it’s a bit sad as such. Interesting And honestly I really don’t care what is “ out there now” I know who i am and l am very content , and just realised I am in the mud with a pig , I am sure you will respond to this with more judgments about me but I won’t know because I don’t care what you think or having the last word.

Good point, personally I enjoy commentary from people that have played the game I recon, and bring that insight to the box sooo Daisy Pearce, Lauren Arnell, N.Buckley, Nat Jones, any way I’ve said enough , I wish Kelli underwood all the best but I just am not a fan of some of her comments, harping on about Jackson and Brayshaw not being happy at the Dees got real old and took away from the game, oh and Brian Taylor can be super annoying as well ;)

Forget defending yourself. There is no mileage in what you say. It's out there now. That's who you are.

Ive always like Jones. He gets in has a crack. But like O'Neil and Waterman, every time we lose they get scapegoated and get dropped to make way for a old man with a double chin and a beer gut.

Haha, it’s funny that you mention accurate and informed as these traits are certainly lacking in your response to my post, you don’t know anything about me, maybe read it again and take what I am saying at face value, your response ‘s seem to be a bit hung up on the whole gender thing for some reason.

Oh, it's fair. She is accurate fluent, informed. You just don't like a woman's voice in a man's game. Dinosaur.

No Don, that’s not fair it’s you playing the gender card mate, she is pretty negative about certain things. I am not misogynistic just thought she did speculate a bit to much, would feel the same if it was a bloke I recon.

The Eagles need to rebuild the team culture on hard agressive football. Play Connor West and Jarmaine Jones regularly. They set the right tone for intensity. Leave old farts and any mumma's boys in the WAFL unless they lift their intensity.

Roar Rookie
Yep why does she keep harping about Angus and Luke Jackson going to WA it’s just her speculation and her negativity towards a happy playing group, it’s very unprofessional of her. For god sake just let us enjoy our team and let them enjoy there win, what will be will be. Go Dees

Much better intent at the contested ball and tackling today. It took two years but it seems that the eagls are finally leaving the safe bruise-free game plan behind. Whether Simpson has anything better remais to be seen, but maybe he’s got the message.

Never mind boys, look on the bright side, you were never expected to win so there’s limited disappointment!

I'm finding these commentators grating. Underwood is the worst.

Shocker of a tackle there.
