Former WBO world welterweight champ Jeff Horn takes on rising star Tim Tszyu in an Australian boxing blockbuster over ten rounds tonight in Townsville. Join The Roar from 8.30pm (AEST) for fight coverage and debate in our live blog.
The 32-year-old Horn’s life changed forever when he upset Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao at Suncorp Stadium just over three years ago to win his world title. He successfully defended his belt against Englishman Gary Corcoran before being stopped by slick American Terence Crawford nearly a year later in Las Vegas.
A first-round KO over veteran Anthony Mundine followed for Horn after he stepped up in weight. Victoria’s Michael Zerafa (27-4) then upset him with a ninth-round TKO in Bendigo nearly a year ago tonight.
Horn was just about down and out in his rematch with Zerafa in December last year before staging a miraculous comeback which was kickstarted in the bloody ninth.
His unbeaten 25-year old opponent tonight is Tim Tszyu, the son of legendary former world super lightweight champion Kostya (34-2). Tim has been steadily building an impressive record of his own with 11 KOs from 15 fights, but Horn is easily his biggest challenge so far.
Somewhat surprisingly given Horn’s achievements in the ring, Tszyu will start a heavy favourite tonight. He will have a ten-centimetre reach advantage over Horn, so if he can find his range early he could cause some damage. Horn tends to cut easily.
Horn is likely to try and bustle Tszyu with his awkward style and punching power.
This one really could go either way.
There’s no doubting Horn’s toughness and experience, but he’s been in a few wars ever since he fought Pacquiao. Does he still have the hunger to dig deep again?
There’s also no question about Tim Tszyu’s pedigree, but is he ready to take Horn down?
Be sure to join The Roar for live updates and round-by-round commentary when Jeff Horn takes on Tim Tszyu in Townsville from around 9:30pm (AEST).

Just listening to that commentary where Ruston says 1 more minute and JeffF says OMG?! Some blokes need to realise that their job is to protect their fighter. If the fighter knows before you that the fight needs to stop, then you have no business being a trainer!!!

Just watching g some extended highlights now. TT really has excellent instincts (which I guess isn’t surprising) and composure.

Great win for TT. Showed of a lot of skills especially inside and great body work. He prob could have stayed outside and pot shotted but showed he can mix it. I just hope they dont throw him in the deep end too early. I think Zerafa would give him a better test than Horn did tonight nd that is prob the next step. Nobody can take away the result Horn got against Pac, even if I did not agree with it, but he got the W. I hope he retires as he is not on the world class level and why take the damage if you have made your money?? Tough as nails but TT showed that he is on a different level!

Certainly can't fault his heart, but he's been in too many wars now and it's time to hang them up.

He sure was Glen. Tszyu totally outclassed him.

Thanks Mick, I agree with you. It's a young man's game and Jeff has set himself up financially. He's had a few wars along the way, it's time to put his long-term health first.

I’m happy for Tim Tszyu, I trust Jeff Horn sees 32 as a pretty good innings and time to quit. Struth, I don't know how he does it - decades ago the younger heavies were getting too quick for me by age 25! Thanks for keeping the Roar fans up to date John, good on you.

The baton has been passed, Tim Tszyu is a fighter on the rise. A very impressive performance, dominating every round. That might be the last time we see Jeff Horn in the ring. He was game to the end, but outclassed by a hungry and talented young fighter.

Round 8 Tszyu mixing his punches up to the head and body, Horn has no answers. Tszyu is stalking him around the ring. Body shots are taking their toll on Horn. Round 9 coming up for HOrn, one he often struggles with and it will be another tough one tonight!

Round 7 Horn showing the heart that he’s famous for, the Qld crowd are chanting his name trying to lift him, but Tszyu just has too much class. Horn looks gassed, Tszyu looks as fresh as when he started the fight. Another Tszyu round.

He won't throw in the towel, he likes to punish his fighters

Physically & metaphorically- I have the sense that Horn has been a shot duck since the Crawford beat down & is just a gutsy dude to keep on slugging it out (for who knows what reason, money?!? when his own trainer tells the world that he doesn't train properly for what will be hard fights but anyway) & I wouldn't be surprised if he just quit mid fight tbh.
