Australia will be eyeing off claiming a series win on Day 4 of their Boxing Day Test against New Zealand at the MCG. Join The Roar for live scores from 10:30am (AEDT).

The Aussie pace attack was relentless on Day 3, as Pat Cummins claimed his fifth five-wicket-haul and James Pattinson enjoyed his first home MCG Test in four years, taking 3/34.

Kiwi opener Tom Latham was the only Black Cap to offer resistance with the bat, bringing up a half-century after getting a second chance following a Steve Smith drop in the slips.

But otherwise, the Black Caps had few answers to the questions posed by the quicks, getting bowled out for 148 inside 55 overs – New Zealand’s lowest ever first innings score in a Test in Australia.

Tim Paine opted not to enforce the follow-on despite his side boasting a first-innings lead of 319, deciding to give the bowlers a rest instead.

After cruising to 1/100, the home side would lose 3/10 with Steve Smith falling to a Neil Wagner short ball for the fourth time of the series.

The Aussies will resume on 4/137 to begin the fourth day with Matthew Wade and Travis Head at the crease.

  . Did you catch the interaction between Broad and Stokes the other day?? We are definitely in a good place.

Yeah, that would be a good call. There couldn't be a better time to put him in considering the state the Kiwis and Aussies are in. Will for Wade and Neser for Starc (if injured).

It's the modern way Geoff but look at the overs bowled from each side. In this game nz bowled 155 in the first innings and we bowled 54. A rest could also be considered in terms of number of days off

Nigel Llong always struggles. His two lbw calls in the Blundell innings tell the story. Aleem was held out over the santner glove incident. Marais was ok

Think the Aussie batters also deserve a lot of credit for their powers of concentration in that first innings - fabulous effort - congrats to Smith, Head, Paine and Manus in particular

Serious? Didn't have a problem with most of the umpiring - its the DRS (i.e ball tracker) that is more confusing.

Sorry Sarge can't agree with this - this is a very long hot summer with five tests played already and the Australian fast bowlers need to be managed - the captain and coaching staff got the decision to bat again and give the fast bowlers time to recover absolutely correct

Never felt prouder of the Australian cricket team or the resilience and bravery of our nation in the face of the horrible bushfires that have decimated the east coast of NSW. Your comments are incredibly disrespectful and should be withdrawn. If you are a Kiwi you should be ashamed.

Let him bowl on a turner though. I know Nevill was saying the last shield pitch did turn but will they serve one of those up for the test? Lyon who is a terrific spinner has poor figures in Sydney so why put a debutante through it?

You sound pussed off! Your real name wouldn’t be Jordie Barrett? He’s pussed off for getting kicked out of the MCG.

Yep Swepson shouldn't be in there. Remember Mason Crane? Not sure Wade should go yet, Burns might want to get it together. Fun fact, Mason Crane's middle name is "Sidney" Would be a shame if it remains his only test..... :stoked:

Alright I dodged the question. Guilty I'd drop Starc. Don't get me wrong, he's a brilliant weapon and brings variety to the attack but the others just suffocate. Alternatively play all four quicks windies style
