Australia and New Zealand meet in the final Test of a three-match series at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 10:30am (AEDT).
The now traditional pink Test is upon us again and New Zealand will play their role in it for the first time. With the memory of Jane McGrath still vivid for cricket fans across Australia, her husband Glenn’s continued efforts to raise money to fund breast care nurses will continue against a wonderfully pink backdrop over the next five days.
Thus far the series has been an Australian domination, with wins in Perth and Melbourne by convincing margins despite the odd moment of hope for the visitors. Frankly, the Australians have been far better with the bat and elite with the ball. The Kiwis have crumbled under the triangular attack of the Australian quicks and their best men with the willow have offered little.
Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor have provided no backbone and Mitchell Starc, James Pattinson and Pat Cummins have destroyed the batting line-up each and every time they have faced it. New Zealand will be hoping that the Sydney pitch will be a little lower and slower than the surfaces they have faced earlier in the series – that could potentially offer them a greater chance against what is arguably the best bowling attack in the world.
The predicted extra spin and slower bounce will no doubt bring changes to the Kiwi XI, with Mitchell Santner likely to make way for other spin options. The possible selection of Mitchell Swepson could be a watershed moment for Australian cricket, yet we may have to wait until moments before the toss before discovering the official Australian line-up.
Prediction
Tipping against a confident and rampant Australian team would be silly after their performances in Perth and Melbourne. Even though New Zealand pride will no doubt be on the line, the Aussies should wrap up the final Test of the series within four days.

At the moment according to ICC rankings they are ranked 2nd in the world. This will change of course after the end of this series.

Australia has ended day 1 of the Sydney Test against New Zealand in a dominant position. As has been the case throughout much of the series, the Australian batsmen have dominated while the visitors struggle to take wickets in groups and put pressure on the middle order. On a day where Tim Paine won the toss and chose to bat on a pitch that looked dry and a potential paradise, the Kiwis were in disarray from the start, with no less than five changes made to their side. With two new spinners in the eleven, Tim Southee left out of the team and Trent Boult injured, the task of snatching Australian wickets was likely to fall to Neil Wagner. Colin de Grandhomme would have something to say about that, taking two wickets with his medium pace away swing. Joe Burns was his first victim, once again failing to capitalise on a decent start. He made 18 and the Australians went to the first break with only the one casualty. David Warner fell soon after the resumption for 45, once again to a Wagner short ball, before the combination of Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne set about building a partnership to steer the game in Australia’s favour. They did so. Smith was removed late in the day when he edged a simple catch to Ross Taylor at slip, just as Burns had done earlier and Matthew Wade came to the wicket to bat out the remainder of the day with some lovely stroke making. In the end, Wade finished on 22 and Labuschagne a brilliant 130, that sees him closing in on the highest total ever accumulated by an Australian in a five test summer in Australia. The Kiwis will be chasing leather in the predicted heat on day two for some time unless they are able to take early wickets. Labuschagne will be looking for 200+ and Wade, Travis Head and Tim Paine will also be hungry for runs. Stumps Score Australia……….3 wickets for 283 Over 90

I think Ponting did over 900 one summer.

Manus reminds me of a young Kim Hughes - if you were lucky enough to see him bat. Kim had a bit more flourish with his cover driving, cutting and pulling - but they have similar styles. Manus appears to have a bit more appetite to score big - mind you Kim was up against the West Indies when they were at there absolute peak and the Kiwis and Pakistan are not in their league. And great to see Wade take on Wagner in the last few overs. Should be good to watch tomorrow morning.

What is the record for a summer with bat in test matches? Is Marcus on his way to break it?

A good days cricket for us, Smith will be disappointed, and the shot he got out with was poor technique, but he still made a solid half-century and keep NZ out of the wickets for a long time. Wade looked good late taking Wagner on, and Warner survived his early edginess only to give it away on a weird stroke after lunch. But Marnus is the talk of the town, just another stunning century, almost chanceless again and looked by far the best batsman out there.
