Australia are back on home soil and will host South Africa in the first of three One-Day International games. Join The Roar for live coverage of the match at Perth Stadium, from 2:20pm (AEDT).

The two countries will resume their rivalry in international cricket after the infamous Test earlier this year, from which three Australian players were banned for ball-tampering.

Cricket Australia’s issues continue behind the scenes; the fall-out from the internal review forced David Peever to resign late last week, just a week after being quietly re-appointed.

The Australian public want a strong performance in this series to kick-start a new summer – and era – of cricket in this country. Many are still sceptical and while it will take more to convince them, a strong ODI match would be an ideal start.

Australia’s recent form in One Day Internationals has not been great, five losses – a series whitewash – to England the most recent of results.

The team also struggled last month in the shorter game in the UAE, suffering three T20 losses to Pakistan.

South Africa have experienced their own batting troubles, having passed 250 runs only twice in their past 14 ODIs.

They failed to fire again on Wednesday, in a tour game against the Prime Minister’s XI, bowled out in 40 overs for 173 runs by the weaker – on paper, at least – Australian side.

The battle of the fast bowlers will be great to watch in the 50 over format, with both trio’s: Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood for Australia, and the South African line-up: Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi and Dale Steyn, fit to play.

Prediction
After some periods of gutsy play in the test matches against Pakistan, Australia will be up for the fight to continue earning the respect of their country once again.

Back on home soil, Australia to take victory in the first game of the series.

Join The Roar for live coverage from 2:20pm (AEDT).

I have no idea what you are talking about. As far as know from the datas i have, Travis head average more than maxwell( as a sample i have used both batman's average against SA,NZ,IND,ENG away from home). And i don't think there is any conflict in between them as they are very different kind. Travis head is a top-middle order batsman where i see him as more base building or consolidator, when maxwell is middle-lower middle order where his main job is to get quick runs. My aussie for WC would be Finch(c) Warner/Renshaw Patterson Smith Handscomb(wk) Stoinis/Head Maxwell Starc Hazz Cummins Zampa/agar

Ronan we are so awful that we make opposition teams look good. SA is an average side especially batting wise. This same SA side would not trouble England or India.

Ya about that, As soon as stoinis decides to play more home match (6:13) like MM(21:23)and decides not to be available for easy tour like India tour(where he played 5 of his 13 away matches) i am sure his stats will start to catch up with Sir Don Mitch Marshman. Checkmate. :-D

Ronan, expected better from you honestly. You just gave me something that is available in google and can be found by searching. Don't you think i already know those stats before i made this team up? This team solely for SA series, as you have noticed i did not pick any of front line quick. They need to prepare for test series. I don't want them playing around some ODI's. They need more time to re-invent themselves fully for test series that is coming. I want them to go back to shield. Patteron- average mere 34 at 40 odd match. Ya i know that too. What is like about him? He takes long time to get those runs. His technique is solid and make a perfect number 3. "His strike rate 78" Exactly. That is the main reason he makes perfect number 3 across all format. Behrendorff- Ya i know, that is why i made an "or" but somehow it didn't appear. I put Dorff/Stanlake. "His body is so fragile" then what is your medical staffs doing? Sayers - I am perfectly aware of his "65" average from near 20 match. Saw today's match? Noticed anything? Let me tell you. All saffa fast bowlers you faced today are perfectly capable of exceeding 150+k at regular basis. But today they were bowling at mere 140+. The wickets they got were all all 135+ delivery. Simple theory, drag down the pace, let pitch do it's tricks on ball. When aussie bowlers keep consistently hitting 140+. Today stoinis created more trouble for saff batsman than other bowlers. This is what you need when you are bowling on a pitch that is doing plenty. Sayers is a natural swing bowlers. He would have troubled saff batsman today more than any other.Of course he has 65 (SIXTY FIVE) average on your concrete roads :-D BTW i did not pick him based on his average but more for his economy. His economy rate is actually less than mitchell marsh and somebody who can play siddle type role. You picked world's most explosive batting line up in pak now here. How did it go? :-D Picking Finch,Short,Lynn,Maxwell in same site and expecting them to "rotate strike" is what really is laughable.Bowlers don't need to get them out. They will get themselves out. PM XI vs SA --> Bailey was anchor(not so explosive) Australia vs Pakistan T20 series--> Babar azam 2 50's & 1 45'. Highest strike rate 125(Cool and calm) NZ vs Pakistan T20 series--> Both match were down to wire and NZ were far competitive than aussies. Babar SR->96 Hafeez SR-> 125 and 160(at last of innings) Munro -> 138 & 158 Did you learn nothing from there? You need to set up the base properly first. You put explosive in base, then you know what will happen. As i am sure you have already noticed from your team's performances. :-D

@Ronan,Australia's bowling in odi cricket has been poor for sometimes now. This gets unnoticed because the battng has been so awful.Even whenever they scored 280 or 300 in the last year or so,the opposition team chases them pretty easily with only losing 2 or 3 wickets.A lot of times in the last 12 to 15 months, the opposite teams had 100+ runs opening stand.Mitchell Starc has been a big disappointment in odi cricket for a while now.

"Stoinis is regularly delivering 10 tight overs." Back in reality, Stoinis has a whopping economy rate of 6.43 runs per over in the past year.

Head needs to change his last name to Marsh because he's starting to be treated like a third Marsh brother. The bloke has average FC stats and has looked extremely average except on super highways in ODIs yet is now a lock in all three formats... Maxwell must be wondering what he did wrong not to get the same treatment that players like Head and the Marshes get.

Kopa you love to dish out criticism so I'll give you some of your own treatment: That's a truly laughable side. Sayers - averages 65 with the ball in his one day career. Sixty Five. Patterson - has a strike rate of 78 in his one day career (so he scores at 4.68 runs per over across his career) Jason Behrendorff - body so fragile he can't even manage to play semi-regularly for WA let alone for Australia.

Stoinis is a more potent bowler than Marsh these days. And he is obviously a better batsman.

They are products to varying degrees of the private school system along with the Olympics team. Cricket should be working class but it seems to be drifting to the same areas as Rugby.

Ben Mcdermott and Callum Ferguson for sure .. Also Labuschagne could be tried in odi .. i would also play only 1 of starc , hazlewood and cummins per game - other 2 to play shield cricket NCN should be banished now and stanlake , dorrf cwn come in

Starc and Hazlewood are Test specialist bowlers, they should not be included in any ODI or T20I sides.

It was a dismal day for Australia, and the few Aussie supporters who turned up to Perth Stadium would have been left pretty annoyed at the display, but plenty for them to work on. Personnel questions will always be raised, it was good to see Carey pick up 33 runs (although he got out with poor shot selection) and Coulter-Nile 34 runs. Marcus Stoinis took three wickets, a positive in the fielding innings. South Africa would have been a little disappointed with how they finished off that innings, losing four wickets in the end. However, it was a brilliant effort with the ball to begin with - Steyn and the pace attack were aggressive and put the pressure on Australia, while leg spinner Imran Tahir took two wickets. The batting - which was a problem against the PMs XI - worked well enough for the situation today for South Africa. A convincing victory for South Africa, they would be happy with that. Australia 152 South Africa 4/153

SOUTH AFRICA WIN All over - a dominant display by South Africa with both the ball first up and then the bat, saw them take a convincing 6 wicket victory over Australia. Final runs were scored by the new batsmen in Miller, who clipped it wide of fine leg. South Africa 4/153
