The BBL continues tonight when the Melbourne Renegades take on the Brisbane Heat at the Gabba. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match starting at 7:10pm (AEDT).
The good news for the Heat is that they are still firmly in the race for the top five. The bad news is that they are the most unpredictable side in the competition.
Just three days after dismantling the Strikers in Brisbane, they suffered a record loss in the return bout on Friday. Bowled out in 17 overs, the Strikers reached the 101 target with ten wickets and almost as many overs in hand.
Until recently, the Heat had been heavily reliant on Chris Lynn. If he fired, the Heat were in with a great chance of winning. With the addition of AB de Villiers and Joe Burns, the Heat should be able to post more consistent totals.
The Melbourne Renegades broke their duck during the week, albeit in a rain-affected game against the Sydney Thunder.
Shaun Marsh and Sam Harper have been generally good at the top of the order while Beau Webster has been impressive in the closing overs.
They have felt the loss of Kane Richardson however, resulting in a bowling attack that will struggle to contain some batting line-ups. They have a big job ahead of them against the Heat.
Prediction
AB de Villiers is only with the Heat for the back half of the regular fixtures. He was bitterly disappointed with his failure against the Strikers and will be keen to atone now.
At home, we will see something special tonight from de Villiers and Lynn, with the Heat comfortable winners.
Heat by 40 runs or five wickets.

What followed however was a complete shock, with the Heat losing their next 10 wickets for just 36 runs. Seven wickets fell in 3 overs. The problem that has caused the Heat issues for years surfaced again, with no-one able to steer them home. Marnus Labuschagne will be welcomed to this team after his return to India, if only to provide some stability to the order.

Once you're through the top two or three Heat batsmen there's not much left. In terms of temperament I mean. Not sure what Lehmann is doing as coach, but I'd suggest changing it, because it ain't working!

Went to my first and last bbl game. Boring as heck, the music was annoying and the commentator trying to get the crowd excited when the brisbane players decided the brilliant start from their openers should be wasted, was over the top.

Any chance Boof can give that young kid who caught a six a game with the Heat? Displays a better temperament than some of the highly paid "stars".

The Heat next take on the Sydney Sixers on the 23rd January in a must win fixture. The Renegades will chase 3 wins in a row on the 21st January at Docklands, where they will take on Hobart Hurricanes

The Melbourne Renegades have recorded an astounding victory tonight. Despite some late hitting, their total of 164 seemed about 15 to 20 run short. The total looked way too few as the Heat raced to 0/84 in the 6th over. However after Chris Lynn holed out and AB de Villiers was a little too aggressive early in his innings, you could see the panic start to set in. The Renegades recovered well from the early onslaught, with Cameron Boyce a deserving man of the match with 4/15. It may be too late for the Renegades to make the top 5, but they will still have an impact on this competition.

Rubbish performance from an overrated team who were favourites at the start of the comp. Lynn & Lehmann have consistently stated that they won't change the way they bat. Tactically inept & unable to change gears to suit the occasion. Well done Boof!

Now get out there lads and give your signatures to the kiddiewinks. And you can stay out there twice as long tonight.

4/15 in a T20 are great figures for any bowler but for a leggie it shows just how willing Boyce was to throw it up and trust his control of the ball. His top spinner was great variation.

WOW, what just happened there? Heat were 0/84 in the sixth over and were bowled out just 36 runs later, the worst 10 wicket collapse in BBL history

WICKET. That's a beauty from Boyce and he has bowled Pattinson with a top spinner. Heat 9/120

Laughlin works to point and takes a single. Heat 8/120

Wow. The Heat are always prone to a collapse, but this has to be one of the worst given the absolute dominant position they were in.
