Australia and England resume hostilities in one of the closest Ashes series in history when they meet at Manchester for the fourth Test. Join The Roar for live scores from 8pm (AEST).
Australia’s thrilling wins at Edgbaston and Lord’s to start the series means they just need to win or draw at Old Trafford to retain the Ashes; however, England’s three-wicket win at Headingley has kept them in the hunt to regain the urn.
Ollie Robinson has been replaced by James Anderson in the hosts’ only change from their third Test XI, while Moeen Ali’s fourth innings promotion to number three in the batting order will remain permanent.
Australia, meanwhile, have dropped sole spinner Todd Murphy as well as the expensive Scott Boland, with Cameron Green and Josh Hazlewood returning. It means a boost for the batting order as well as the pace attack, but results in Australia going into a Test without a frontline spin option for the first time since January 2012.

You are misunderstanding cricket mate.

Greeny's fine. Don't you remember his partnership with Carey only 4 innings ago?

Hey I dont have time to sit and argue. Im having to deal with Marnus' woeful dismissal and the rest of them getting starts and not going on with it. We all need to do our bit. Bison is going good, but you need to sort out Greeny. It just wont do.
Don Freo
Roar Rookie
I'd tell him to do the same. He dug out some blistering yorkers because of dexterous footwork. That was just a wayward ball; batsmen do miss them. Strange that only Green's LBW comes into question. You are a strange lot over east.

Cos I’m quite sure in 2019 . He help England win the cricket World Cup .. nothing to do with captaincy.. that very year he score prob one of the greatest innings ever with 136 . Had nothing to do with captaincy that day . Just too good for you
Don Freo
Roar Rookie
That's the point. Let bowlers bowl. Pat and his friends needn't bowl them all. If you don't think Green and Marsh can bowl, the paucity of cricket knowledge is yours.
Don Freo
Roar Rookie
You can do that. I say we have nothing to fear from Stokes. Pat's captaincy? That's another issue.

Then you not paying attention .. it’s aright to give praise ..

Granted the umpiring has been as bad as KP's commentary, but you need to talk to Cameron. As his most trusted mentor, tell him he is so much better than that. Cam knows was a shuffle forward and not a stride. Foot not to the pitch. Gap between bat and pad. When the ball thudded into the pad he adjusted his bat towards where the ball hit. Cam is so much better and such a classy player with a beautiful technique. He needs to relax, play his natural game and be confident. If anyone can get him there, Don its you

If you understood cricket you would be aware that you need more than nine overs to assess someone's ability.

What current performance?
Don Freo
Roar Rookie
Current performance. Stats will not teach you how to understand cricket, Opeo. Watch the game and learn that way. Play the game if you're young enough; that will really help.

What was that he was mumbling about ‘wind across the wicket’
Opeo
Roar Rookie
He has not picked up a red ball in four years so what else is there to go on? Are you just assuming that he is better because some time has passed?
Don Freo
Roar Rookie
I just love hearing Athers' narrative change with the fluctuations.
Don Freo
Roar Rookie
So you form your opinions on career numbers from 10 years ago while ignoring current bowling. That's just silly. You do that too often.
Opeo

He could be carried through home series against any opposition apart from basically India, but we have an opportunity for a rare away series win. We have only won a series away from home once in the last eight years and not won a series in England since 2001. We need the team that is most likely to win this match and/or the next one.

as don states his average is not that of a world class batsman …… if we had’ve held some of the chances stokes offered he would not have put up those big scores, also helps him playing on tiny grounds, on any decent size ground in many instances he gets caught on the boundary rather than getting a six … when he is on though he is an incredibly dangerous batsman

Hope we rip em a new one Don.
