Australia will look to push on and set a daunting first innings total when they resume Day 2 on 5 for 232 in the third Test against Pakistan. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 4pm AEDT.
It was an intriguing opening day to the Test after many – including some of the players – predicted another road.
Pakistan were outstanding with the ball and gave Australia hardly any free balls to hit.
Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith will be disappointed that they couldn’t turn their 50s into 100s with Khawaja falling late on Day 2 in the 90s again.
The first session will be crucial for both teams with the game finely balanced.
Alex Carey and Cameron Green are two hard hitters of a cricket ball and they managed to survive until stumps.
If they can get through the first hour Australia will be confident that 350+ will be a very handy score on this pitch with enough in it for the pace bowlers and the spinners.
It should be a fascinating day and it’s perfectly set up for one team to put the foot down and take the momentum.

no. Watto would have been unfairly targetted by activist umpiring. And the prediction only ball tracker would have shown that the ball was clipping leg bail. Watto would endure another unfair dismissal, on then ump's call protocols. Ensuring that the rule would change, to protect future reviews from future batters. Rest well, Watto. You didn't suffer in vain.

yes, exactly, we need time to bowl them out given the limitations of our attack

Yes was just reflecting. No loop and no drift, possibly related. At least MacGill got loop, and this lots of turn and bounce I would say on what I have seen so far, he probably isn’t the guy. But he has another 50 overs to stop the Zampa impersonations and find his inner leggie

Well after we went at less than 3 an over for most of the time when the pitch was presumably at its best, I don’t think we can be pointing fingers. Nevertheless, if Pakistan can do what we did last test and post 550 by late day 4 or even early day 5, we could have a very challenging job of batting to draw knowing we can’t win. Ranchi 2017 etc.

Terrible pitches. Doing nothing for the game. I if Pakistan wants tours it must do better than this

And you'd think by your comment you still don't get how to play in Pakistan. Time is just as important as runs

Day 3 will be key and as the pitch deteriorates, spin must surely come into play. Australia First Innings………….391 Pakistan First Innings..............1/90 Over 39

That was a long and grinding day of cricket with Australia having early control before Pakistan fought back with the ball and ended in a dominant position with the bat. Australia First Innings………….391 Pakistan First Innings..............1/90 Over 39

Pakistan win day 2. Wicket looking dead and not offering much for the bowlers. Starc and Lyon look tired. A lot of work ahead to take 19 more wickets If it's three draws do we win the series as a punishment for poor pitch preparation?

Thanks Stuart. You're either a test cricket nut, a masochist, or both.

Man I wish Shaffique was Australian. He is exactly the 22 year old opener Australia could use.
