By The Roar / Editor

Was the pitch in Ahmedabad too favourable towards the spinners?

17 wickets in a day suggests the pitch was so poor that they should be on a formal warning like the MCG was.

I would be very careful if I was you, Australia has yet to play on these heaps. But never mind Virat Kohli tells us the pitches are fine there’s nothing wrong with them. But then I would value his opinion more if he had made a decent score on those pitches instead of a big round o twice.

Plus in a total of 105 all out there can be a partnership of 49 for any of the 10 wickets where batsmen embark on a best form of defence is attack policy. A certain amount of fortune is always needed. If they were chasing 149 they could easily collapse from 1 for 69 to 111 all out.

Yeah but there hasn’t been a contest in D/N Adelaide yet that wasn’t a decent contest, bar v Pakistan a year or so back … and if it rains, it won’t be a rain ruined draw.

I was just kidding around. Zossa saw the joke, and that makes him a good bloke.

Pretty easy really... All venom had gone out of the game after England were bowled out. Even on a poor wicket Root wasn't going to be unplayable forever. The Indian spinners are miles better than the English ones so they did get a lot more out of the wicket. Much easier to bat when the pressure is off too.

Oh come off it... The pitch was an absolute shocker.. I'm all for pitches to be a bit tricky but that was ridiculous. You talk about the straight balls getting the wickets, that is because every other ball was a spitting cobra doing bits past the outside edge that the English (and Indian to be fair) batsmen were playing for huge amounts of spin which didn't always happen. The pitch was awful, underprepared and not fit for test cricket. Having said that, it was bloody entertaining, but now I've got nothing to watch for the next 3 nights...

The D/N adelaide test never lasts 5 days either...Time to get a better ball.....

2021-02-26T09:18:41+00:00

So how did India score 49-0 on "such a bad pitch"? Id be looking far closer at the pink balls than that pitch....

2021-02-26T09:16:31+00:00

You bought it up bernie...WHY?

2021-02-26T09:14:51+00:00

In the first test the commentators all said that winning the toss and batting will win the game because the pitch started as a road but deteriated from day 3....England had 600 runs by day 3...

2021-02-26T09:11:55+00:00

India cope'd with it ok...40-0 and seemed to cruise...

And worse still there has been an apparent spike in ear plug sales in the UK as those likely to come across Joe Root in the next 5 years, stock up before they get a ball by ball description of his bowling effort.

a ‘non-catch catch’ … very catchy terminology … I like it.

Yeah the problem there was the umpires watching the crease to check the batsmen didn’t run short. It has since been written into the umpires coaching manual, no joke, “whenever there is the possibility of a catch, this should take precedence”. I agree, from replays, it was, in all probability a fair catch, and the benefit of the doubt to the batsman was taken too far.

Guilty as charged, but the worst thing about that match was the Snedden 'non catch' catch. One of the greatest outfield catches you will ever see. The bastman that got the benefit of that awful decision...? Greg Chappell
