It would be good to get some clarification from the ICC on exactly what they want batsmen to do re running in the danger area. Perhaps a video or some visual display so we can all understand how it should be done.
I watched the day's play. They were not in any danger of being warned most of the time, as they ran in the same places as batsman on both sides had done all test match.
Watch the highlights of NZ's Phillips in his excellent debut 50 as an example - running in the same areas as Warner and Labuschange for much of it, even encroaching on the warning areas a couple fo times when playing Lyon.
What appears to have occurred is that the cumulative wear of that and the bowler's footmarks was worrying Aleem Dar. He was looking at the bowler's footmarks too quite a lot before he warned the batsman. Warner was just the last straw, even though he didn't have much alternative really.
I wonder why this was an issue for Dar but not for Erasmus? Surely these blokes weren't only doing it at one end? I'm also wondering why it took over 200 runs to do something about it? Others have suggested they were doing this before, but seemingly no action was taken by either umpire.
Warner knew what he was doing and got caught out. About 10-15 runs earlier he ran 2 ran down one side of the wicket crossed the pitch and returned up the other side. That's what alerted the umpires to what he was doing.

They should of ran down the pitch another 50 times to give NZ a decent score for once ;)

Dar had warned him a few times. Warner a serial grub for this sort of thing. He could have gotten off the pitch quicker. Let him cop it.

What was that all about? Where was Warner supposed to go considering the shot and need to get to the edge of the wicket?
