Yeah, too often he gets spanked, and/or just isn’t a wicket taking threat from wickets #2/#3- wickets #7/#8. It’s frustrating that an early breakthrough and regular tail-end wickets paper over these glaring cracks!

Yes, I think when batsmen get those chances to survive as Tassie's openers did, they can get settled and create that sort of partnership. I'm not too worried by that re the first innings in the context of Jhye. He created the opportunities. What made it more difficult was losing Lance Morris early on, so he lost support at the other end (compounded by Joel Paris being out of the side injured in the first place). But JR fought back well. As you say, he took on the workload and ultimately got it there for WA. Tricky part will be Tassie 2nd innings. Not sure if Morris will be back on the field to bowl. Green's had to knuckle down in not the easiest of conditions to bat and with loss of wickets. With a 260 lead, will be interesting to see if he launches with Philippe to get 320ish in front after the first hour and tempt Tasmania. Or does he take an anchor role to to protect wickets for the first half hour and let Philippe go for it?

I'm guessing this might be close to Mitch Starc's last Ashes campaign He'll be 32 in January and I doubt greatly he can keep those spells going you mentioned. Maybe see out ou next Aussie summer, but that's about it I reckon.

I guess you want more consistency from your fast bowlers. How long Starc’s currency of cleaning the tail or taking an early wicket will keep him in the side?

You want Jhye in first test, but you also say "Starc should be given 1 test"??? So you want BOTH to play in the first test, or is there someone else you want to make way?

Good gravy I want this guy to play in Brisbane. However, the selectors have their blinkers on and wont pick beyond the so called bowling cartel that failed so badly at the same venue vs India. Starc should be given 1 test and if he doesn't deliver should be flushed away like the log that Don Freo left on Pale Roarers front verandah.

Yep, hat's the way the game plays out sometimes. Kudos for the WA boys for sticking at it and Richardson bowling another 28 overs must have convinced selectors he can get through a Test series if needed.

According to Don Freo the Tassie openers were incredibly lucky to survive his first over or two. Runs scored were all unintended edges through/above the keeper & slips cordon/gully region. So they could've been one or two down for stuff all without luck being on their side.

Yah reckon? it took the WA quicks nearly 68 overs and 197 runs, to take their first wicket. Granted Richardson bowled really well, the fact that he and the rest of the attack took so long to get a break through would still leave question marks. Don't get me wrong, I want Richardson to play in Brisbane, but Starc's got this ability to knock one over early, which could be why he get's picked for the Gabba and Richardson does not.

Geez, WA can’t take a trick with fast bowlers. I swear WA’s Shield prospects in the last decade (or more!) have been mainly impacted by the constant injury woes with fast bowlers, and the inability to consistently have the best 3-4 pacers in the side fit in the side for any game. And IF they are in the side, then they can’t get through a whole game without suffering an injury. Morris has now followed Paris in consecutive games as a fast bowler not being able to get through the game.

3 overs for 3 boundaries against Jhye. Silk taking a few risks at 9 down and went his way for a bit. Not sure why Jhye didn't bowl straight after lunch. Hopefully no issue. Morris is injured so may need to be conscious of that in Tassie's second innings. See what WA's scoring intent is here.

Mind you Silk is doing well atm but not sure how he's looked against Jhye.

Just at the batsmen constantly: 140km/h+ all day. The rare loose ball is used as bait (and is successful as seen with a tired Jewell who just scored a century). So even guys batting well feel the pressure of Jhye's relentlessness as seen now with Jewell, Ward, Burns etc. Khawaja has looked the only one to be comfortable facing him eventually when set.

Being backed up nicely by Green keeping the brakes on. 10 overs at 1.20RPO.

Be hard not to pick Jhye for the first test now. Even when batsmen are well and truly set he can come on and bowl spells where they can hardly get near him!
