The GOAT denied by the barest of DRS margins

By The Roar / Editor

Nathan Lyon had a strike rate of 133 for the series before Day 5 of the 4th Test started. It could have immediately improved with this shout against Cheteshwar Pujara

I love the way commentators are now sub-consciously calling out umpire's call with on air commentary "If that had been given out, it would have stayed out".

He was a very long way down to be given out. Probably shouldn't be out lbw that far down the pitch

Sure could have. I don't want to dwell on that though, I'd rather condemn it as an isolated incident in reference to what insult to injury wrote above.

This is everything which is wrong with the DRS. The size of the stumps have been reduced because of the inadequacy of the algorithm. The umpire not giving it out certainly isn't a howler, but if the point of review is to correct human error, then a ball seen to be hitting the stumps must be given out. If the technology isn't good enough to provide an answer, then take this option away from a review. We then have the lunacy of Steve Smith's dismissal. He may very well have had his hand still on his bat, but when the 3rd umpire asked for a front on view, none could be provided! Seriously? The angle the original ball was shown when bowled in real time wasn't available for a review? Come on! Sort this rule out, or get rid of it.
