Round 19 of the NRL Premiership continues this afternoon when the Canberra Raiders host the New Zealand Warriors at GIO Stadium in Canberra. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 3.00pm AEST.

With one of the easier runs into the finals, the Raiders have a real chance of qualifying for the semi-finals this year. However, sitting one game outside the 8, they can’t afford any slip-ups against teams they are favoured to beat.

The Raiders would have gained plenty of confidence with their 20-16 win against the Storm last Sunday afternoon. Canberra have had a strong pack in recent years but their creativity has been lacking.

Jack Wighton and Jamal Fogarty have made the most of their limited time together, with talented youngsters in the backline, like Sebastian Kris and James Schiller, benefiting.

Nick Cotric comes in at fullback for the suspended Jordan Rapana. Albert Hopoate will play on the wing, replacing the injured Schiller. Elliott Whitehead returns, with Corey Harawira-Naera moving back to the bench.

On paper, the Warriors last start loss to the Eels 28-18 doesn’t look that bad, but the reality is that a couple of late tries masked what was a convincing Eels win.

The Warriors pack looks like it can just about match the Raiders. To cause an upset though, Shaun Johnson needs to have a big game. His record against the Raiders is excellent, and he will need to build on that history this afternoon.

The Warriors have identified a need for something different and have made some changes this round. Chanel Harris-Tavita will start at fullback, with Reece Walsh bumped to the bench. Daejarn Asi gets a start in the 6 jersey. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak also returns from COVID protocols.

Prediction

The Raiders are building some momentum late in the season and have it all to play for right now.

On the other hand, despite an encouraging welcome home, the Warriors don’t have the same momentum.

The home side should win comfortably.

Fantastic second 40 by the Raiders after looking half asleep in the first 40. Hopefully Ricky realises that CHN has to be in the team after that performance - there is no way that Whitehead provides that sort of impact. Fogarty had his best game in green, Jack kicked a couple of inspirational 40/20s and young Hopoate showed amazing composure when he took 4 catches in a row from short kick offs by the Warriors. Looked pretty dodgy at half time but the Raiders certainly lifted when it was necessary.

Thanks WTD - think we needed a win against you blokes after that last game was pinched by Shaun Johnson after Lodge put on that act to get a penalty to level the scores at full-time

Your lads deserved to win in the end, really turned it on in the second half. Some poor calls helped the result blow out more than it could have, but the Warriors didn’t deserve to win that. Best of luck making the finals mate, I’ll be cheering them.

No worries - I've seen the Warriors stiffed in the past but not today - the ref put the whistle away in the second half and the Raiders were too good. 26 unanswered points sums it up really.

I missed the game but I just wish the officiating could be fair. It’s often the big moments or when the Warriors get ahead early and the ref’s try to bring it back.

Yeah maybe a bit late by then. In all fairness CHT had a fantastic game, so I don’t think that’s why they lost.

Couldn't agree more - Casey got them all right today- Warriors supporters having their usual whinge about the refs when they simply weren't good enough in the second 40

Luck and the ref had nothing to do with the result of this match

Mate - that first 40 was as slow as a wet week

Your faith was well placed Nat - the Warriors knocked off at half time and to be fair the Raiders played very well in the second 40 - particularly Wighton, CHN, Fogarty, Tapine and Hopoate

Aha, partial revenge for that ridiculous game last year.

I feel your pain mate. I'm gutted for the fans. They make a lot of errors, there is something not right with the culture, but gee whizz, they get stitched up EVERY week by the officiating...

Disagree, Casey is great, way more impartial then every other ref. Deserves a spot over most of the current stable.
