I’ve mentioned it before TB. I’m trying not to bag the refs this year. Some interesting calls tonight but it’s split second stuff, under pressure, under fatigue. No one else is perfect… Blowing up about the Big Nas nudge is absolutely ridiculous… Nearly half a ton of muscle in that melee! Barest nudge. Pathetic form from Roosters. Really poor leadership

'Both were really clear': Roosters in a rage over ref's contentious calls as Storm win on the back of two dubious tries

Feel your pain Panthers. I know we all love to despise you lot these days… but fair play, you have developed your talent… Extraordinary effort that just keeps continuing…
I go for the Storm. I know everyone despises us still too… We also had a good run. 😊 I know we are inherently evil… Wrestling… Chicken Wing… Cap Cheats… Leg Pulling… Ref Whisperers… yada yada… But we developed almost all of our players too. We don’t have a big nursery, but the best lads we have had, we developed, many of them cast offs from other systems… Its good for the league, but it is quite not right.
The Dogs team that should have beaten us on the weekend were chocked full with stars from other systems… probably six from your crowd alone? Mind you, I am pleased for the Doggies supporters who have held strong through tough years.
I’m bamboozled as to why each club has to have a minimum spend as well as a cap? Fair play, a cap slows Uncle Nick from his spending sprees… but why should a rubbish team be paid as much as a Panthers or Broncos team, stacked full of talent? Just weird… I might well be missing something.

The Fish that broke the Panthers’ back: Dynasty in danger with JFH the biggest blow in long list of star departures

Dead right Josh. Could have been on the wing and bust his ankle badly by a freak accident, just like Coates… There are some unusual human beings that frequent this site. Revolting comments.

'We go again': Papenhuyzen responds after horrific injury as star goes under knife on fractured ankle

Thank you TB. There are some people here, and some so called Storm fans amongst them, that should be ashamed of themselves for blaming a freak, tragic injury on Craig Bellamy here. I am disgusted by them and heartbroken for this young lad…
Got to find a scapegoat these days… horrible direction that society has headed towards…

'We go again': Papenhuyzen responds after horrific injury as star goes under knife on fractured ankle

Thanks Mike, great article

The brains behind the Broncos? How Lee Briers is bringing the best out of Reynolds, Walsh and Haas

Mike, bit off topic maybe but how did you rate this send off against the Joe Shorrocks send off last week? That was a big call for mine… And probably prevented a huge Big Brother Little Brother battle in the cup?
Oh well, this Wigan lad will be cheering on the Leopards.

ANALYSIS: Brown sent off for horror high shot but backline fires Roosters to victory over Manly

Totally agree.
Gould sometimes infuriates me with his parochial Sydney centric views, his oracle opinion of himself, and his repetitive drivel in commentary. Yet, I quite like him…
And, he knows more about our sport than just about anyone. And, he has absolutely walked the talk, player, coach, administrator and pundit, and hugely promotes the game…
Like this non story, about a non story, about a non story… 😂
And I’m sat on the pot, reacting to it too… 38.47% of all NRL articles this year had Gus in some way as it’s catalyst… He is a machine!

Who needs a seven-year plan when you have Kevvie? Cartwright rightfully tells Gus to stay in his lane

It’s pathetic TB… I get it’s difficult to play each team twice, and have a proper draw, due to ANZAC, Good Friday etc… But having a crack at fairness would be welcome…

ANALYSIS: Melbourne never beat themselves and Souths never beat them at all - but where was Latrell for an hour?

I wouldn’t swap him for any other forward in the game.

ANALYSIS: Storm prove why they're Round 1 masters - by taking nothing for granted in gritty Parra win

As a Wigan fan I don’t usually go nuts for Saints… But that was special! ????
Some of the rubbish about the poor quality of the Super League can be put to bed tonight… Thank Goodness!
Just brilliant…!
Knights, St George, Tigers, who else? Dish up rubbish week in, week out, year in year out, with a squad that earns three times what the Saints squad is on!
Walmsley is just a sensational forward…
Great game…!
Yeo is all class as a bloke

'A seismic result': Panthers humbled in Penrith as the Saints march into history with World Club Challenge win

Worried we will get Gee again. The last ten minutes were a joke. How they didn’t get marched…

Robbo praises 'down and dirty' Jared after Roosters send out Premiership warning with fiery win over Storm

Black and white ruling is a disaster. It’s led to players with the best musculature and balance in the world falling over like they are in roller skates when someone brushes last them. The officials make some stinking decisions but we all complain about the time the bunker takes, the harmless tackles that are penalised etc. Tell you what, I reckon we all enjoyed the rugby more when the ref was god, and the people running the touch actually had a role. Was there a minute bobble in the put down there? picked up on the thermal imaging camera, using space telescope technology? while we are waiting, let’s see what the betting markets are doing… Try? No… Your team scores a try and it is actually anxiety provoking… Can they take it off us???
Me and my daughter watched a load of classic tries the other night, laughing at how enjoyable it was, how many would be pulled up today etc… We are trying to turn a rough and tumble collision sport into synchronised swimming.

Grey areas should be avoided: Bunker's ‘commonsense’ switch in obstruction rulings opens can of worms

Tim I agree. It’s brutal. I’m part of it. I honestly enjoy the presser more than the game at times. Seeing Madge, or Barrett or the Knights lad sit there and try to keep it together is perverse yet rivetting tv. I’m actually not proud of it.
That said, Ricky has gone absolutely OTT on this, although, I don’t know the lengths of the old issues between families.

Sticky situation: NRL should enforce a few more rules in Operations Manual after Stuart's spray

Thanks Paul. Maybe have a weekend off rugby league? That’s a long article and so full of negativity. But that’s NRL lately. You may be a man after my own heart. 😁 My kids call me a Negatron! Anyway, stay out of the rain, have a nice bath, and order takeaway this weekend. Watch The Sopranos instead of NRL. Its all going to be ok, really… 😊

Round 21 Preview Questions: Anyone have faith in judiciary? Manly Seven speak up? Griffin happy with his 17?

Well that is a strange article Tim. A lot of solid work went into telling us that there is no conspiracy but changes are required to prevent the tin foil hat brigade form alleging that there is. Won’t they just find something else to focus on?
And barely a mention of the Raiders?
I’m now worried that the ‘powers that be’ have nobbled you to join their dastardly world dominating plans…
Who are you and what have you done to Tim? 😊

Too much unnecessary pressure: Why NRL must change Sunday 4pm kick-off time

Jenny, just back from the UK, Wigan, hotbed of League.
Lots of the younger people there are mad keen on Panthers. They like To’o, Yeo, all the daft finger dancing, and of course the success. It made me want to puke! 😁 😱 🤢
Reminds me of that terrible period in EPL when Man U had Beckham, Giggs, Neville Brothers, and success… Couldn’t move for new supporters…
If I were a Panthers fan I’d be much less a Debbie Downer about the club’s future. Looks great to me and it will to a lot of other people, especially kids…
My lad even told me he quite liked Luai last week… Not sure where he is living now… …

Set of six clubs forming a perennial NRL underclass: Strugglers stagnate as smart sides get stronger

I’m an old Pom and went to watch Wigan when they were relegated, promoted etc. I love promotion and relegation but accept that it would take a lot of work here to set up. To me the big issue is in the power of franchises. Poorly run clubs can remain poor and get same cash as the winners. It’s a bit like professional wrestling when you’ve been brought up in a different system. Clubs playing each other twice before some clubs have met at all!
My biggest frustration is the rubbish spouted about a lack of talent meaning expansion cannot work…. Think back 3 years, J Hughes, Pap, Cheese, Nico H, all struggling to get a game… Not good enough apparently. Foxx couldn’t get a game it’s rubbish clubs that cant harness talent.
Load more examples. Is Olam unique, or is there a raft of other hard working tough players in PNG that don’t get developed. Look at the Panthers and their stocks. Problem for me is two things, administrators are terribly short sighted and Sydneycentric and the grass roots is getting neglected.

Relegation in the NRL is a terrible idea

The danger of chasing coin and celebrity… play in a poor team and your stock goes down…

Daniel Tupou's message to dumped Josh Addo-Carr is pure class

I agree with you Jimmmy, which is a nice change pal! 😁 Contact sport looks doomed to me too…
And the idea that tackling low is the answer, well spare me. The majority of serious concussions seem to occur to the defending player getting clipped by the knee or hip of the ball carrier, or sometimes that of another defender.
Not to be glib, but life is risky and risky is fun.
And, false comparison but, I’m glad I played rugby league as a kid, carry a bit of a bust up knee, and maybe have a battered brain (I doubt it) rather than ended up as an enormously fat kid, safely sitting on the couch, Billy No Mates, but safe.

'Uneasy logic': The opportunity lost and difficult truth being ignored in Royce Simmons’ Alzheimer’s walk

Thank. Goodness.

Not the retiring type: Bellamy commits to a 21st season of his Storm purple reign

Sexton does not look up to it to me. Other young halves makes mistakes but have an x factor I just don’t see with Sexton.

Holbrook promises changes for NRL's Titans

Great article. Funny how culture plays a part in all this.
Being raised in Wigan it was a statement of fact that Billy Boston and Jim Sullivan were gods. Didn’t see them play but met Billy many times. (Both Welsh by the way)
Cam Smith is a future immortal and his games record is extraordinary, but I think the histories of players, many from Australia and New Zealand, who plied their trade in the UK, is somewhat undervalued.
Not an immortal, but my favourite player ever, was Kiwi Graeme West… Great man. I remember a trip to Wembley for the Challenge Cup final in the eighties. A big banner said ‘Graeme West has laid on more balls than Joan Collins’
UNFORGETTABLE 😛

Nearly Immortals: The best of the rest

You have a point with the obstructions. When a slavish fixation on a flawed rule trumps logic and game feel the sport is in trouble. Let’s not forget that the players are 100kg+, running at pace, under fatigue… brushing the shoulder of a defender, four out from the line break, 25 metres away, murders the spectacle and the physicality of the game.

‘Bunker damaging our game’: Stuart calls on NRL to strip video reviews back to contentious tries only

I enjoy the pressers more than the game too sometimes. It’s a guilty pleasure tbh.
Agree it has to be reviewed normal speed, should have a limited amount of views, should be the ref who makes decision, on field, watching the big screen with us all.
Seems to work better in the SL to me. Less shocking decisions.
Generally agreed that the touchies are almost pointless in the modern game. Used to be a key role, running on, flag lifted, assisting the ref’s. They are now terrible.
