The NRL continues this afternoon with a top-four clash between the Canberra Raiders and Newcastle Knights, coming to you from Campbelltown Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 4.05pm (AEST).

Of all the teams to play last weekend under the faster NRL rules, the Raiders adjusted the best.

They were just brilliant against the Storm, dismantling them 22-6 at AAMI Park. Melbourne just don’t get beaten like that but they were off the pace against the Raiders.

The forward pack, led by Josh Hodgson, won the battle of the middle, leaving room for Jack Wighton and George Williams to create plenty of opportunities. While Wighton rightfully deserves the wraps on him, Williams was seriously impressive and is in line for a big season.

They make only one change for this one, with the return of Bailey Simonsson forcing Jordan Rapana to the bench. Michael Oldfield misses out on the 17.

It’s only early days, but it seems like Adam O’Brien has created some real resilience in this Knights team.

As depleted as they were, they had no right to hold the Panthers to a 14-14 draw last weekend, but they did. In fact, they were really only a fingertip away from Edrick Lee scoring a winning try.

Newcastle welcome back Kalyn Ponga this weekend while Andrew McCullough will make his Knights debut, replacing the injured Connor Watson. Mitchell Pearce has been named on the halves, but he must be in serious doubt after his concussion last weekend.

Prediction
Canberra did enough last weekend to install themselves as early premiership favourites. There is a risk of an energy plateau after a game like last week’s but Ricky Stuart will have them fired up.

I’m tipping a comfortable win for the Raiders.

Intensity was way off from the Raiders early today - maybe a letdown after the big Storm win and the early favourite tag for premiers in 2020. But that is a pretty p*ss poor excuse. Newcastle was far too good. Just shows you need to turn up with attitude in every game in the NRL. A lot for Ricky and his men to work on this week. Curtis Scott needs to have a good hard look at himself and surely Jordan Rapana needs to in the starting team. We needs some goers out there.

We are 4 rounds into this comp and there is no clear cut favourite right now. But Knights fans, on the back of the win, can start to dream big in 2020.

So the Parramatta Eels are alone at the top of the table with the Knights second, ahead of the Panthers on for and against. The Eels play the Panthers next round with the Knights getting another big test vs the Storm

The Raiders were down on intensity early and the errors flowed. However, when they got back to 10 points down, the Knights stuck to their game plan and finished the stronger team

This time last week we were wondering where the Raiders next loss would come from. We didn't have to wait too long, with the Knights really impressive this afternoon. They controlled the middle with big games from the Saifiti brothers, Klemmer and Ese'ese. It wasn't anything fancy, just hard yards up the middle. When they did get territory, their halves and Kalyn Ponga were too good in attack

Thanks for a great call, David. Can't have been easy with the pace in the 1st half. Congratulations Knights - well played!

Curse of the Raiders continues. Beat the premiership favourites one week, lose against another team the next. Could have been the Bulldogs – likely same outcome. But the Knights were impressive and worthy winners.

At the start of the year I predicted a Canberra/Newcastle Grand Final. Knights are looking good, not sure about the Raiders though...
