The Cronulla Sharks will be out to snap a losing streak when they face a struggling Penrith Panthers outfit in a rivalry they have dominated in recent times. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:50pm (AEDT).

Cronulla have had an up and down start to the season, but their last two weeks are cause for concern.

While they are still able to grind out games, the style of the club still seems to be struggling a little bit as they adapt to life with Shaun Johnson in the halves.

They haven’t been helped by injury of course, but they need to get back to basics and aim for high completion rates, and good chunks of possession if they are to get back to their best following losses to the Parramatta Eels and Sydney Roosters.

While the Sharks have been inconsistent, the Panthers have been consistently poor.

It’s quite amazing both of these teams have records of two and three coming out of the first five rounds, because the Panthers have looked utterly deplorable at times.

They got away with a win over the Wests Tigers a fortnight ago in golden point, but other than that, their defence in the middle third has been awful, and their attack not much better, with the combination of James Maloney and Nathan Cleary struggling to spark anything on a forward pack which is high on name power, but poor on performance so far.

Their loss to the Titans last week was a dreadful performance, and if they defend like that in the Shire, it’s going to be an ugly evening for the men from the foot of the mountains.

The Sharks hold a fairly convincing head-to-head lead in this match-up, having won 50 of their 91 matches, however, they have six on the trot against the Panthers, who haven’t won in the Shire since 2012.

Prediction
The Sharks are at home again, and it’s hard to see them dropping three on the trot. While Penrith have been huge underperformers this year, they need to be almost a completely new team, especially in the middle third, to compete with Cronulla.

Sharks by 8.

I hear the Penrith player's are on the bus. The problem is the bus crashed. This is what you get for ONLY signing a coach (again) to keep his son. Gus Gould is out of his depth. Was a great coach, but certainly doesn't mean great in management, when it's a totally different skill. DWZ was terrible,as was past it Maloney. The Penrith Panthers - More like The Penrith Giving Away Penalty Tries.

Those places seem to check out from memory from our ZT days. You once promised to cook something for someone on ZT. You said it was your specialty and; "It was to die for!" Do you remember WHO and WHAT? I need to be sure that you are not another ZT profile that has a penchant for hiding behind a mask and watching plastic bags dance in the breeze.

Yep. You got me. Born and bred in Belconnen I played my footy for Gungahlin and spent the Saturday nights of my formative years at Mooseheads (pre fire).

You have a strange definition of winning Scott when the Dragons are 3 - 2 while the Bulldogs are 1 - 4 and you are coming off a 40 - 4 win over the Dogs. ;-) Then again (except for round 1 and 30 mins against the Dragons) Souths have been absolute crap and they are still 4 - 1 and their only loss was by ONE point in golden point after missing 3 conversions and a field goal to get there! LOL

Comiserations champ. The Panthers lost a game they had in their keeping just like the Rabbitohs against the Sea Eagles. But then again, THAT was Souths ONLY loss this season and we had to miss 3 conversions and a field goal to fall short by just one point. On the bright side, hey Ivan Cleary is back! And there are a LOT more games to go. ;-)

I've always said the moment he gets consistent, he will be Paul. Starting to get there.

After THAT escape you will have some idea how Rabbitohs supporters felt after the Warriors game... bloody lucky to escape with the two points after one of your worst efforts of the season! ;-)

Aaaah, now the penny drops. An absolute classic and one of my favourites but... not a song title like the others though.

Is Fifita the best forward in the NRL? Not only in the NRL but in the whole of RL. Also he makes a lot of backs look like they're wearing concrete boots. When the big G retires it's time for the big F to take over. The NRL need to take on board the family attitude that is fostered at the ground root clubs & the family values of the players they have tried to discredit in the past. These are the payers that are the future of the game.
