Newcastle have named uncapped David Armstrong as Kalyn Ponga’s injury replacement at fullback to help salvage their ailing NRL season. Armstrong, 23, joined the Knights’ top-30 squad this season after two years in NSW Cup and has already attracted Super League interest, despite not yet debuting at first-grade level.

Dane Gagai will captain the Knights on return from his calf injury.

The Dolphins always looked the more dangerous in attack but they were flat for most of the afternoon. Trai Fuller was again a livewire at the back but he didn't get enough opportunities in try scoring positions. They have a chance to get back in the winner's circle next Saturday night in Townsville

The Knights survived some late drama to record their third win of the season against the Dolphins. They just appeared the more desperate team out there and fully deserve the 2 points. David Armstrong at the back proved they will be ok with Ponga out. The forwards set the platform for this and they dominated the Dolphins in the ruck. The Knights take on the Warriors next Sunday afternoon at home

Big miss on the 2 points for home game for dolly’s. Big plus for 2 points on away game and Ponga down for knights. Did they need time to recover from last week.
