The Gold Coast Titans will be desperately trying to keep their slim hopes of avoiding the wooden spoon alive when they encounter the Parramatta Eels this Friday at CBUS Super Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting at 6pm AEST.

Surprisingly the Titans have a positive record over the Eels, having won 11 of the 18 matchups the two have played, although recent history favours the Sydney team.

The Eels will be playing for much more than the Titans, with a win here ensuring they will keep nipping at the top fours’ heels all the way through to the finals.

This is a game the Eels will have marked down as a win earlier in the season when checking their run home, which means if there is an upset it will be extremely costly for the Parramatta side.

To help them avoid that scenario the Eels welcome back Kane Evans, which means they field perhaps their best forward combinations of the year.

On the other side the Titans have a similar side to the last month, although Jai Arrow was back firing last week and is named again.

It is here in the middle where the key matchup of the aforementioned Jai Arrow and Eels lock Nathan Brown will take place.

If Arrow can replicate one of his incredible past performances and lead the Titans forward with his strong carries, effortless tackle busts and clever offloads then the Titans may just catch the Eels sleeping.

However, if Nathan Brown can utilise his aggression in defence to shut down the wounded Titans big man they could just put the final nail in the Gold Coasts coffin.

Prediction
The Eels will be warned by Brad Arthur to not take this game lightly and he will be wary they don’t slack off. Look for the Eels to rampage through the flimsy middle defence of the Titans and then capitalise out wide.

The Parramatta Eels have defeated the Gold Coast Titans 36 to 12 on a humid night at CBUS Super Stadium. Mitchell Moses continued his good form as he lead his team to victory while the Titans slump to their 8th straight loss. The first half was quite a good battle, with the Titans repelling many of the raids the Parramatta Eels sent at them. This committed effort, combined with a bit of luck, meant that the Titans went into the break only one try down and with the game still up in the air. However, almost straight after the break the Eels went to work. By fixing up their last passes (that had been going to ground in the first half) and working out the kinks in their attacking combinations they ran rampant over an exhausted Titans team. Waqa Blake was the beneficiary of some slick work by Mitchell Moses as their partnership on that right edge continues to develop. Blake got a double while three of the Eels tries were scored by their forwards, including one to Daniel Alvaro who nabbed his first four pointer in several years after a tap back and some paper-thin defence let him slide over the line. In a year of few highlights the Titans looked like they might have worked out some of their defensive woes early after they shifted well to counter the Eels wide spreads. The toll of this defensive effort came back to bite them in the second half and made it clear something is very wrong with at Robina. Whether it is their training regimes that aren’t up to scratch or a lack of passion from the players, something needs to change and fast if they are to come back from this next year. In the end the Eels won by a predictably big score line and continue their march to the finals looking like a well oiled machine. The Titans are in a huge rut with no end in sight and only a wooden spoon to look forward to in their near future.

Eels didn't look troubled at all in this game. They put together some nice attacking plays. Nice practice runs for their Finals push. Titans just look ordinary and look like they can't wait for the season to end.

Unfortunately Hodges isn’t the exception he’s the rule in commentary standards.. the Thursday night Channel 9 coverage is by far the worst. They use the quantity over quality approach. Why have two or three ex footy players blathering when you can get six? It’s like trying to watch the game in a bar when a bus load of half cut morons roll up and blather inanities over the top of each other

80' FULL TIME The Eels take their time with this set. Niukore takes the first hit up and then it is back to Kane Evans. They stay right for another hit up before they go to the centre for Alvaro. On the last Moses has it and goes for a field goal but it is charged down. Arthars ends up with it and is tackled as the siren sounds. Titans: 12 Eels: 36

77' Titans now with a bit of a hop in their step but its far too late. They set up for a big shift but can only get as far as Peats in the middle. Now they go out to the right edge and Proctor is taken. Back infield and and fotuaika is stopped. They kick on the last and the Eels have played at it so they get another 6! But it is all for nothing as Whitbread drops it almost immediately in a strong tackle. Titans: 12 Eels: 36

76' Titans Try Brian Kelly goes straight through off the scrum! But he slows down to gather his bearings and is run down. The Titans are practically walking with the ball and the Eels give away a high tackle via Alvaro. Another penalty in the same spot. Titans tap but this time they spread it right and there are some bad reads from the Eels edge defence and the Titans manage to outnumber them and Arthars scores in the corner! Titans: 10 Eels: 36

74' Titans look exhausted here. No real energy and no forwards putting their hadns up for carries. Fotuaika finally has one and it makes decent metres. They try a right side play and get an offload so Peachey chips and chases but theres multiple Parra players back. The Eels nearly get through with Mahoney putting Dylan Brown into a hole but he drops it. Titans: 6 Eels: 36

72' Titans go short with the kick off but its a grubber and Mahoney has it and nearly goes straight through. They are inside the Titans half on the second play and they are probing on the left with Lane. They swing back to the middle and then out to the right edge but Gutherson throws a blind pass that hits the turf and ends the set. Titans: 6 Eels: 36

Some of these ruck penalties could’ve been called all through the game and weren’t. I wonder why fans get wound up

70' Eels Try Eels look sure to score here, especially Gutherson who is always hunting around the ball and draws a penalty for the Titans holding on too long. Niukore takes the tap and then Gutherson feeds an inside ball to Peni Terepo who is just stopped. They go back to the middle and Niukore just burrows over! Very simple stuff here, the floodgates are now opening. Titans: 6 Eels: 34
