After a week of representative rugby league spanning from Auckland to Perth via Western Sydney, the NRL resumes as rivals Manly Sea Eagles and the Melbourne Storm face off at 4 Pines Park to kick off round 16. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7.50pm AEST.
Despite suffering a shoulder complaint, Cameron Munster has surprisingly been named to don the #6 for the Storm. However, Jaiden Nikorima has been named on the bench and is likely to pair alongside Jahrohme Hughes in the halves should Munster’s inclusion in the side be nothing but mind games by Storm coach Craig Bellamy. Ryan Papenhuyzen may be a late inclusion into the Storm team as the superstar fullback is set to return from injury and Covid-19. Felise Kaufusi will miss the clash for personal reasons, which paves the way for Chris Lewis to shift into the second row.
Manly will be hurting a lot after their 28-26 loss to the Cowboys after leading by 14 points with ease at one stage. What better way to show off a response than beating a rival in front of 20,000 Manly fans? The weather is forecasted with rain in Manly throughout Thursday, however rain is unlikely during the clash. Despite a relatively clear forecast during the game, Manly halves Kieran Foran and Daly Cherry-Evans will have to adapt their kicking game on a wet surface and focus on set completion rates over magical plays. Josh Aloai will miss the game due to an injury suffered during rep round, however Manly are at their strongest team post Tom Trbojevic’s injury.
Prediction
The last time Manly hosted the Storm in the NRL was in the same month Australia plunged into lockdown in 2020. So much has changed, but the Storm’s dominance over Manly has not as Manly haven’t beaten the Storm in their last six clashes. Despite a question mark on Cameron Munster’s fitness, the Storm start favourites with a strong unit across their backs and forwards. Winning on a wet night in Manly will be a confidence booster for both teams, but the Storm should get over the line.

Would be good if the Integrity Unit could check out these games and fingers-crossed no anomalies found, and all checks out. Would put plenty of fan's minds at ease. Hardly think they would be too busy at the moment to have a look.

Fully agree SR, the Storm have been coached that way by Bellamy and its an institutional tactic with this mob! Its a bit rich when Storm fans come out with “nothing like a bitter NSW league fan who can’t stand a Victorian” comment when its as clear as day that they do it every game and especially last night (as they were losing) they went all out to do anything and everything, slowing play down, laying over players and questioning every decision etc etc just watch their pattern as its very obvious and its intentional “every game”! I’ve been winging about this for years as it’s the referees and the NRL’s fault and its deep rooted, have a look at that clown show in SOO 2 with Qld being penalised with 4x 6 again 3 penalties all within 3 min and slowing and holding players down and using the same tactics as Bellamy uses and has coached for years, as guess who is Qld’s coach and who was the offending player that got sin binned, I say no more.

Haven’t seen much from Joe recently – hope he is OK – massive Storm supporter And Walter Black has gone missing for about 2 years!

I hardly watch rugby league at all anymore , but that's due to the administration and especially the bunker and that's a whole different issue. But the main thing I noticed last night was the amount of time the Storm players were holding down , which is also an administration issue #therefsux.

That is absolutely not true and its absolutely clownish to insinuate that "nothing like a bitter NSW league fan who can’t stand a Victorian"? I don't hate the Storm or a Vic at all, just have a look at the game again and look at every game that the Storm play as they intentionally lay all over a tackled player "every tackle" and that's not me making things up! Just have a look at everything that Storm players do like, who coaches Qld and who lost Qld the 2nd SOO game and got sin binned for laying over a player? Of course both from the Storm as Storm players are coached in slowing the ruck and laying over a player continually and its in their DNA.

Your Storm hate warms my heart... nothing like a bitter NSW league fan who can't stand a Victorian team owning the NRL for the last 20 years :silly:

The last 8 minutes of last week + the last 6 minutes tonight, just 14 minutes all up, gives the home team 0, visiting team 34. How that's even possible. Was if both teams were suddenly pulling in the same direction. Just too horrible to think about.

Great player and is no doubt a great influence when he is on but his judgement isn’t what it needs to be and he often tries too hard. I remember when they made Beaver skipper.. there has been few better players than Menzies but he was never foreman material. His form suffered badly and it returned when all he had to do was be a genius player
