The Penrith Panthers and Manly Sea Eagles face off at Panthers Stadium in Round 12 NRL action. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:50pm (AEST).

Tipping in the NRL can become something of a crap shoot around Origin time, with the players selected removed from their club lists for this weekend. At the start of the season, most would have believed Penrith would have been significantly impacted.

However, after a dismal 3-8 start to the season, Nathan Cleary is the only man selected from the Panthers squad. That bodes well for the mountain men, after a morale boosting win against the Eels in Round 11.

Having played much of the season without Tom Trbojevic and Daly Cherry-Evans, the Sea-Eagles have been nothing short of a revelation. Cherry-Evans makes his return straight into the Queensland side, but they now lose Jake Trbojevic to Origin duty for the Blues.

Last weekend’s loss to the Titans will have annoyed Manly coach Des Hasler. It was one of the first occasions this season his charges appeared flat and not primed for the contest. He will be demanding something vastly different in this match.

It is a vital game for the Sea Eagles, with a win temporarily vaulting them into the top four. For the Panthers, it is an opportunity to string consecutive wins together and start to build into what will be a rather mad capped chase for a spot in the finals over the second half of the season.

Prediction
Manly have looked by far the better of these two sides over the course of the season to this point and should win this match based on it. However, the caveat is the role of James Maloney at halfback for the Panthers.

Cleary has been well out of form and my crystal ball tells me the veteran may just step in, take control and finally lift the Panthers forwards to a dominant performance.

Penrith 26, Manly 18

Three points to reflect on... 1. Turbo, Jake T. and 3. DCE

You are forgetting about Turbo who sets up or scores twice as DCE.

Commiserations boys. Manly were missing their 3 best players and any team would struggle under those circumstances. Souths will be missing their 4 best players tonight as well as 4 others through injury and Reynolds still in doubt. That's the NRL for you. You need to take the good with the bad... like Des and Insider/AE47. ;-)

A drab effort PS but position on the ladder doesn't prove that much about how a team is doing today. Some of the lower teams will be giving the leaders a touch up or two before the season is done.

Manly had the chance to take the two at the start of the game and so did the Pennies. The Pennies did eventually take the two and Sterlo said it was an admission that Manly's defence had won. Maloneys field goal on half time was also questioned but the 3 point winning margin tells a different story. Manly are just going through the motions in attack and defence around the ruck for a lot of the time and it won't be leading to wins any time soon.

Elgey what an onkus! 6 on 2 to the left and kicks an in challenged bomb to Edwards, DCE returns Croker and Cust are fighting for the 5/8 position, Elgey bombs he thinks are first and foremost ! Des was at the Bulldogs when they let Perret go so I wonder why was Perret let go from the dogs cause he is a young prop with promise and can’t get a gig ahead of Boyle or Gowslewski both not doing much! I like Perret and the right coach he will excel.

The Penrith Panthers have held on to defeat the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles 15-12 at Panthers Stadium. With representative commitments and late withdrawals throwing tipsters into a spin, the Panthers rallied for their second win on the trot; dishing out another loss to Des Hasler's men. Penrith looked the better side throughout, despite the cagey and low scoring nature of the contest. Just a Dylan Edwards try and James Maloney's first half conversion, penalty goal and field goal bothered the scorers in the opening 40 minutes. The Panthers took a 9-0 lead into the sheds and Manly looked bereft of ideas in attack. After the break, the pattern continued and when Liam Martin cleaned up a Brendan Elliot error at the back to extend the Penrith lead to 15, the match appeared done and dusted. To the Sea Eagles' credit they did manage a late surge, and tries to Manase Fainu and Cade Cust had the visitors within three points with just minutes on the clock. It was hair-raising stuff for the Panthers, in a game they well and truly deserved to win. When Isaah Yeo took the final attacking kick from the Sea Eagles, the Panthers were home and the local crowd went wild. Could this be the start of the Panther revival? One of their biggest issues will be the improved game management that appeared to exist with James Maloney at half-back. Origin bound Nathan Cleary has looked indifferent at best this season and frankly, Maloney straightened the Panthers up tonight. Des Halser will be disappointed after another loss that lacked polish and attitude, yet tonight is a night for the Panthers to celebrate, as they take another step forward in their quest for the semi final spot that many felt was assured when the season began. Penrith Panthers………………….15 Manly Sea-Eagles………………..12

Well it took 60 odd minutes but the real Manly finally showed up. Case Cust has to be there week in week out... Elgey off to Blacktown as soon as DCE or even Croker in his absence. The commentators pumping up Maloneys tyres was awfully embarrassing.. the guy was ordinary
