The St George Illawarra Dragons and North Queensland Cowboys will enter their Round 15 clash in Wollongong both desperate for a win, with seasons close to on the line. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage of the match from 6pm (AEST).

The parallels between the two sides this year are scarily similar as we come out of the representative weekend, but not positive for either side.

Both are at the wrong end of the ladder, and with the top eight getting further and further away on the back of some really average, bordering on poor, rugby league being played, this is a high stakes game for both sides if they hope to play finals footy come September.

Both teams currently sit on 12 competition points, and while that’s only four out of the top eight, the general mark to make the finals is 12 wins. For the Dragons in particular, who already have their bye points, it means they need at least seven wins from their final 12 games, which will be easier said than done.

What they do have now though is three straight games at home through a difficult part of the season after a long stretch playing away and it’s an absolute must that they start picking up victories to build some momentum.

The Red V have been a better team with Corey Norman on the field, but the way they have drifted in and out of games is worrying for coach Paul McGregor.

In their last start though, they barely even got into the game before being blown off the park by the Manly Sea Eagles at Brookvale.

Norman, alongside Ben Hunt, hold the key in the halves today, although shutting down Jason Taumalolo in the middle third will be a real problem.

Of course, it hasn’t been smooth sailing for the Cowboys either, but the men from Townsville do have a bye coming up in the next couple of weeks, and when playing well, have looked a hard team to stop.

As mentioned, that’s mainly led up the middle third by Jason Taumalolo, but some of their recent victories have also been aided along by excellent work out of dummy half by Jake Granville.

It’s Granville, and his battle against opposite number nine Cameon McInnes, which could hold the key to today’s game. Speed out of dummy half is instrumental in winning the battle up the middle third, and with points a plenty in both sides, whichever team can get on the front foot and hold momentum could run away with this.

Prediction
The Dragons are at home, and have been good during the first half of games. This has to be the week they put 80 minutes together and take a win, but it’s a tough of a game as any to tip this weekend.

Dragons by 2.

Maybe if the Cows can get the same backline out on the field for a few games in a row, instead of them rotating through the stands. Te Marie Martin, Nene MacDonald Justin O'Neill and Ben Hampton still out . Then lose Morgan to HIA and add a brand new spine player in Drinkwater , I'm hardly surprised that they lost . Have the Cows put the same spine on the park for any sort of extended period ? They have had Morgan, Hampton , Martin, Kahu and now Drinkwater all play fullback at various stages this year . Morgan, Kahu, Asiata, Martin and Clifford have all played 5/8 this year. I think Granville has been the only constant when it comes to the spine Interesting to see what the backline would look like if all the troops were available. My guess and it really is just a guess is 1 Drinkwater/Hampton , 2 Kyle Feldt, 3 and4Jordan Kahu/Tom Opacic/ Justin Oneill, 5 Nene MacDonald , 6 Michael Morgan, 7 Te Marie Martin/Jake Clifford. So many options if they were all available

Kahu is to slow and often through it forward also. That’s 4 I can remember this season.

Obviously Morgan having to leave the field was a huge turning point. I don’t know about the late hit thing with Tariq it’s far to consistent an occurrence that those he belts are suffering head injuries? If he breaks a rib but he gets a lot of opponents on the point of the shoulder from the side after the ball is gone. Kahu is not NRL standard but unfortunately the Cowboys are so low on troops they don’t have many options. Congratulations to the Dragons for finishing the game with a wet sail.

Yeah, he looked gassed in defense but he's been out injured since pre-season and only had 2 games back and playing in the 1.

That’s one out of two for me so far this weekend. You know, this game was as hard to call as Easts/Mel coming up. They were two sides that really needed a win. I just don’t get the Cows. There must be something going wrong up there.

Do you think he’d suit another position with them. He’s had some outstanding plays this season.

I saw enough from him to be excited . Without the ball he wasn’t great but he’s only been in town a week. I think he will do well.

The first was not hitting the deck as soon as he fielded the Dragons kick near the line and giving them a repeat set of 6. The second error, the strip, the ball wasn't secured near his body when he was running in traffic and his arm carrying the ball was loose by his side. He switched off. Both rookie mistakes. Both his fault. But he did a hell of a lot better tgan Corey Allan last night!

It kills me how often wingers stand flat. The forward pass is their fault 100% of the time.

Pretty good game. That Cowboys comeback at the end would have made some Dragons fans nervous. Good first game for Drinkwater especially considering he made the trip up on Sunday. He'll only get better.

Right, no time for a match report tonight, because we are straight onto the next one. Hopefully you enjoyed the call of the Dragons and Cowboys, but now, join me for the Roosters and Storm in Adelaide. Bye for now.

Ouch! Is any other player refereed as closely and on reputation rather than their actions?

Ben Hunt has stopped a couple of tries getting up incredibly quickly?

FULLTIME The Dragons will just run the clock out, and they have survived a late scare after a great comeback to take a very important two points on Friday night against the Cowboys. The Dragons snap a losing streak of six in their last seven, and the Cowboys will be extremely disappointed with that. Dragons 22 Cowboys 14

No jimmmy. JT13 has 9 appearances for 2019 and Sam has 13! Sam has scored 7 tries, JT13 has scored only 2 tries. But then as a Cowboys fan of course you would vote for Taumalolo.
