The 2019 NRL Representative Round will start with a bang as the NSW Blues host the Queensland Maroons at North Sydney Oval in the 2019 Women’s State of Origin match. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog, starting from 7:45pm AEST.

The Blues are the defending champions after winning last year’s game 16-10, with a two-try effort from left centre Isabelle Kelly proving the difference in that match.

Kelly has overcome a knee injury to take her place in the side for this year’s game, providing the Blues with plenty of strike on the left edge, although she is down on match fitness as the injury has kept her from playing in the National Championships.

The Blues will field seven debutants in the side, although there will be plenty of experience on show too, with the likes of Kelly, Corban McGregor, Maddi Studdon, captain Kezie Apps and others returning to the side after last year’s victory.

Lining up at hooker is the evergreen Kylie Hilder, who at 43 years old returns to the interstate arena after a decade-long absence.

The Maroons have four on debut in this game. However, like NSW they have plenty of experience in the side too. Steph Hancock has been a mainstay in both the Queensland and Australian teams for years and will let her actions do the talking in the front row, while captain and halfback Ali Brigginshaw will lead the side round the paddock in attack.

Expect plenty of big hits in this one. The big NSW No.8 Simaima Taufa loves the tough stuff in the middle, while QLD lock forward Rona Peters put some serious shots on in last year’s game, and will be looking to do the same this year and shake up the NSW pack.

Prediction
On paper this is a game NSW should have in the bag. However, there are plenty of question marks surrounding some NSW key players.

Will Isabelle Kelly have the same impact on this game as she did last year coming into it so underdone? How will Kylie Hilder handle big minutes in the middle at 43 years old and after a 10-year absence? And is it worth it to risk debuting seven players in a game of such importance?

I sense a Queensland ambush in enemy territory. The Maroons will be out for revenge after last year’s loss.

Queensland by 6.

Yep, I'm with you Daniel. Last night's match was a really enjoyable spectacle. This years Origin was a step above last years and I have no doubt that the skill levels will continue to improve and next year's Origin will exceed the quality shown this year. The NRLW is in its fledgling stages having only commenced in 2018 - let's give it time to develop for goodness sake. Go Bluuues! :)

I don't get the logic in complaining about it though. Just don't watch if you don't like it. We just saw a very even contest, one half dominated by one side and the other half dominated by the other. good skillful play. I mean yeah, they're not men - the skill level and intensity is obviously not as high as the men's State of Origin. But so what? They play with just as much passion and emotion and it's fantastic to see.

Fine, except isn't SOO supposed to be elite, not park footy?

Fair enough but I’m not sure what you mean about adjusted equality. The standard of that game was pretty good for part time professional players. It was better than a number of NRL games.

I thought it was a fantastic game with some great skill on display. Dib clearly has a fantastic kicking game while Studdon has great rugby league instincts, as evidenced by her solo try to ice the game.

Full Time Full time here at North Sydney and the Blues have overcome a 4-0 halftime deficit to defeat QLD 14-4, winning the Women's State of Origin Shield for the second year in a row! Maddie Studdon was instrumental for her side, setting up a try and scoring the match-sealer, while her five-eighth Kirra Dib also had a brilliant game, dominating with her kicking game and setting up a try too. It was a fairly even first half, with QLD slightly ahead as they bombed a couple of opportunities early. However they were able to capitalize on some an extended period of possession, as Tazmin Gray crashed over to open the scoring. QLD would take the 4-0 lead into halftime, although NSW had a chance to even the scores just before the break as Tungai found space down the flank, kicking the ball towards her support players before Annette Brander cleaned up the loose ball in the nick of time, taking it dead. There was enough time for a couple of plays after the drop out, although NSW didn't threaten as the siren sounded. The second half was a completely different story, with NSW dominating possession in the first 10 minutes. Tungai bombed a certain try early in the half after picking up a grubber in the ingoal and bouncing rather than grounding it. NSW would not be kept down though, as Jess Sergis would score in the opposite corner after a beautiful cut-out ball from Dib, leveling the scores at 4-all. It was all NSW from there as Maddie Studdon set up a try for Tungai on the right side of the field as she this time held onto a tap on from Isabelle Kelly to score in the 46th minute for an 8-4 lead. Studdon then put the result beyond doubt, beating some tired QLD defenders in the middle of the field with a dummy and some footwork to score a great solo try next to the posts in the 51st minute. QLD had their chances in the final 10 minutes, but a lack of possession in the second half had them completely gassed by that point in the game, leading to some poor last tackle options and a lack of energy in attack. In the end, the Blues were able to hold on for a fantastic 14-4 victory, and to retain the shield for the second year in a row! Blues - 14 Maroons - 4

Mate I think we’d all like it to be 40 minute halves. The players would too, based on last year’s comments. Apart from that I appreciate it’s a different style and a different skill set. Appreciate it for what it is and soak up the passion and the contest.

I tell you what Stormy, go watch some park footy. Enjoy the game by those who play for pittance. You'll understand quality footy below NRL standard. Don't judge everything by NRL standard.

I absolutely agree. Nathan Cleary, for instance, badly needs upskilling before he can be legitimately called a halfback, let alone be allowed to play SOO.

Sorry, just can't take the girl's game seriously until they play under the same conditions as the men. I'm all for equality, but not "adjusted equality". Bring the skills of each member of the team up before presenting them as SOO or the like. A few of the girls were good, the others just went for bash & crash and

Great game of footy. Millie Boyle was huge in the middle for NSW. The halves for the blues was the real difference - I do believe I was scoffed at a day or two ago for suggesting they would be. Cracking game. Hope the rest of the rep games produce a great contest like that!

It goes against my religion to say it but NSW were the better team. Dominant prop and superior halves. It’s hard to win against that.

60' QLD have the ball on their own 40 with just seconds to go. Chip and chase but it's too deep, taken by Tungai who runs it over the touchline and the Blues have won it! NSW are the champions 2 years running in front of 10000 at North Sydney! Really strong character shown in that win. Full Time report to come. Blues - 14 Maroons - 4

59' Brigginshaw on the last takes the ball to the line again and gets a pass away to Brander but it's called forward. NSW have it now on their own 20 and that should be all she wrote. Blues - 14 Maroons - 4

57' Studdon stabs one into the corner on the last, Baker picks it up on her own line and a good chase has her tackled on her own 10. Do or die here for the Maroons. Blues - 14 Maroons - 4

55' Brigginshaw goes right with a short ball for Rona Peters who's through a half gap but the ball is called forward! QLD were looking dangerous there. Great defence by the Blues though throughout that set, QLD really threatened and the Blues knocked everything back. Blues - 14 Maroons - 4
