why bring Greenberg into this, This has nothing to do with the NRL, That's like blaming the School Ivan Milat went to for his actions and asking them to do something about it.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending him. He has paid a high price which is going even higher for his foolish act. But that's all it was.
To answer your question, no, I probably wouldn't insist a bloke get arrested if he slapped me but I would want some comeuppance.
Just like Schoolies. You can give young people all the "education & warnings" under the sun however they know better. It depends on what exists between their ears that determines their actions. In Fifita's case "not a lot". Payne Haas' mother would sort him out.
I find it interesting that Greenberg would come out and say this incident deflects from all the good NRL is doing like the attendance at Magic Round. Wake up Todd this is today not six months ago. It is a real problem with NRL players they can't behave wether 19 or 30. You can't ban them from travelling to dodgy spots or stop them from drinking alcohol . It's a problem I don't have an answer for but Todd please don't ignore the problem and deflect to something else . We the public are not stupid.
Poor parenting or just a boofhead whose only "life skill" is to play football. Sad thing is he will have a tribe of kids & they will probably grow up the same.
AU$30k was the figure. Much more then the average tourist hustle. Now he has to see what the club and NRL deal up. I don't think it'll be that harsh though, reports are that he gave the bloke a half-smart slap while scooting past, not the brutal attack DT/Fox would have you believe.
Over my many years of going out and ending up drunk not once have I been inclined to punch a complete stranger for no reason. Everyone seems to want to keep blaming the NRL over these sorts of incidents when for me it is clearly a case of a poor parenting in their early years.
Parents don't need to, children can look up to them on their own. Peer groups etc... Regardless it's a crappy thing to do even if you're a regular joe.
I’m not sure he’s paid a bigger price than “a nobody”, a nobody might have found themselves in jail for weeks or months awaiting a court date , if they were unable to come to some kind of financial settlement.
Those kinds of settlements usually mean being accompanied to an ATM and having your accounts cleaned out , if you want to avoid court.
Why would anyone hold up juvenile footballers to their own children as 'role models' and why would the NRL promote them as such? Catch ball, kick ball, make tackle- let's keep it at that.
What Leeway has he been given? He just spent 3 night in jail for his dumb actions. He paid a much higher price then a nobody would to get his way out. He's yet to learn his punishment by club and NRL but you arguing because his legal rep makes up some bs to the police and media, he's not being accountable. You make up ridiculous statements-come-insults and hold the fella accountable for them.
And that my friends is why players go to Bali, where everything and everybody has a price. As long as you're not dabbling in illegal drugs then money can get you out of almost anything over there which is why the players are better off going there rather than Europe, the US, or even staying in Australia.
Many years ago when I was that age you didn't look for excuses. His legal representative apparently stated "it happened so quickly he didn't remember what happened". That would have been laughed at back then. Nowadays it's everybody else's fault but the offender. If you are a "sports star" you are given even further leeway. David Gallop when NRL CEO said when his phone rang out of hours it normally was a matter involving a player misbehaving. Todd Greenberg must feel the same. Stick to playing the pokies David. You don't have to think too much.

Isn't it a bit more than a half arsed slap? I'm tending to think that if it happened to you, you would onto the police to have him arrested.

Best just to safely loiter around Internet forums like Greg, passing judgement on others. A shining light I say. A shining light. To Greg!!
