First female NRL referee is ready to realise her dream

By The Roar / Editor

The NRL’s first female referee, Belinda Sharpe, has spoken with the media ahead of her trailblazing debut.

After six year experience refereeing Queensland Cup, Women’s Origin, and running the sidelines as a touch judge in the NRL, Sharpe is finally getting the opportunity to realise her dream of officiating an NRL match out in the middle.

She’ll be in the cauldron of Thursday night football in the Broncos-Bulldogs match.

Well you have a fair bit to get to Dharmasena. He has had three lbw DRS reviews in one over and got all three wrong. Beat that and you're in international class.

I wonder if the boys are gunna call her maam ,like they do in all those British Cop Shows. I'll bet Cam calls her maam when she refs the Storm.

I have no idea, maybe the horror of it just blanks it from my mind. More power to you because I wouldn't do it. I would rather score all day than be square leg for 5 overs.

Scott, I was thinking along the lines of fitness too. Well, not so much game fitness but being able to keep up with the physicality of the game. She has earned her stripes in lower grades and by all reports deserves her promotion. There is a big gap between reserves and firsts as many debutantes have said, mainly the speed of the game. If she is good enough she will do the job and I hope it works out well for her.

Oh look, someone put their hand up and shouted “I’m Richard Cranium!” Does your daughter think you’re as funny as you do?

That's ok, surely Gus can step in and ramp up the patronising angle instead. Can't have her getting off scott free after all.
