exactly. How can anyone get through to these clowns that head injuries are far, far worse an issue, than injuries from these sorts of tackles?
That they can almost condone one as wearing a "badge of honour" yet carry on about another is completely beyond me.
There WAS a lot of flack about the Smith broken jaw . People are still using that ( and Strangely one that you don't mention from the same game, the NAS atrocity) as examples of an aweful laxity in high head contact. They are right . I would have given him and NAS 5 weeks each.
None of this though has any relevance to the hip drop case. It was terrible and three weeks is too short. Deflection is not argument.
Would be curious what Freddy and Joey would say if it was a Rooster committing the tackle. As others have said, there is so much talk and condemnation here, yet when Marata Niukore took Brendan Smith to the jaw with a shoulder, no one gave a crap.
One ends with a broken jaw, the other ends with no injury. Yet the broken jaw see's no sanction and the lack of injury results in 3 weeks. How is that fairly adjudicated?
I wont argue its a nasty looking tackle that doesn't need to happen, but there are a lot worse punished with a lot less.
Perhaps the ref should be calling held sooner, rather than letting the wrestle take place? Seems like an easy fix. His momentum stopped, arms are wrapped up, why is it continuing?
There is no “reward” for a one on one low tackle. The defending team is actually disadvantaged because the attacking team gets a quick play the ball. The only way to stop all these wrestlers is to encourage one on one leg tackles by giving the defender a “reward” either calling it a dominant tackle or enabling them time to get up and mark the player they tackled.
Good on them for taking a strong stance on stamping out rubbish tackles like this. Just wish they would go after players who attack the head in the same way they have here.
I don't get these supposed experts. Why aren't they suggesting the same or more for players who attack the head? I know which injury is more difficult to recover from.

Worse still, Johns was attacking the ref for sending off Townsend...
