Tom Trbojevic explains embarrassing injury

By The Roar / Editor

Manly star Tom Trbojevic insists he injured his hamstring after slipping in the bathroom despite footage showing the 24-year-old taking on a fan in a sprint race in The Corso at Manly.

Trbojevic said that his bathroom mishap was embarrassing but that’s where the injury occurred and now he’s likely to be out for at least the first three weeks of the season.

“I slipped over in the bathroom,” he said.

“It’s pretty embarrassing. It’s a hard one to take and I do apologise to the Manly organisation and members.”

Trbojevic knew about the video circulating on social media and had this to say about his unorthodox sprint training.

Dindu Nuffin, based on a brief comment such as the 1 above, it may be a tad early to hazard a guess but I'll keep a lookout for posts from your tag.

not initially, but when he comes back, I'd move him to the centres. The problem is, Manly doesn't have anyone good enough to replace him.

Doing a hammy in the bathroom, really?? I think both the Manly club & fans should wash their hands of him!

He is not even going to be on the field.

Effectively what your suggesting is using Tommy as another play maker in attack, which is perfectly capable of doing and as a centre in defense, which again makes sense, given how well he goes in SOO in similar roles. I think you nailed it with your comment about big money for centres and how they earn it. Here's a guy that can take control of one side of the field for Manly in both attack and defence, which allows the team a lot more flexibility because DCE or Foran could lock down the other side in attack and/or have a roaming commission. That alone, if it works, makes the big money sent on TT well worth it, IMO. I'd love to see Lomax develop similar distribution skills at my Dragons. He's already an okay defender so adding this extra skill to his game would make him a far more potent attacking player, a bit like Cronin was with your boys a while ago.

Maybe (and I'll resist the temptation to comment further).

If I was a coach, and I'm obviously not (probably for good reason) but I'd run him at centre, and work the plays more around that for him. The way I see it is he's tall, pretty solid (defensively and in stature), possibly injury prone (he maybe unlucky of late, but I don't think that's all it is) yet still young (and on a medium/long term big money deal) so playing at centre could avoid some of those (potentially) physically awkward but necessary FB maneuvers. I know the arguememt would be "you can't pay that sort of coin for a centre", but I'd debate that with "wouldn't that depend of how you play that centre"? You never know I may be right (back in fashion) one day, when centres are no longer the modern games "leper".

What are the odds your shoes and BBQ will do something equally brain dead?

Geez FB.... You're going to have NRL 7s as the staple feed. And they'll be lucky to get a team of 7. I have shoes and a BBQ plate that might qualify for a run

Exactly. The man is injury prone, you should assume he won’t be playing- because it’s rare that he does.

The other part of this I don't get is why Manly has such poor coverage for a key spine player? They know his injury history, yet they've not gone into the market to find a good utility player that can play fullback when Tommy's not there, for what ever reason

At least prior to 2009 we got to see B Stewart practically injury free. Turbo has been dogged with injuries year after year. Diego Maradona was asked once who he thought would inherit his mantle of worlds greatest player and he said ‘I thought it would be Michael Owen but who knew he could pick up an injury hailing a taxi’. The official bathroom story or the impromptu corso sprint is a dumb injury. He needs to take things a lot more seriously

I'm guessing Manly's lawyers are going to be earning their keep trying to sort that out with the insurance company, John. And to think he did this after a few lemonades. Imagine what he might have done after a few beers! :stoked:
