Greg Alexander is correct, Ponga was taken out by a Shark who was trying to take him out. All you have to do to make an obstruction legal is have your nose pointing at the ball. If he was looking to catch the ball it was a failure and yet he was rewarded with a try for his hopeless attempt to catch the ball.
Should have been a penalty as Ponga was taken out. Bombs are a reward for failure to score a try in 5 attempts. All they deserve is an attempt at field goal as in US football which is where we got the four/six tackle rule from.
What about the amateurish attempt to catch the ball that luckily took Ponga out. The bomb is the main attacking weapon in Rugby League. It's as stoopid as golden point.
It was only a fair try if you ignore the obstruction. The Shark was no chance of getting the ball. He was on course for a collision with Ponga. The video ref should've ruled no try.
Ponga was taken out by a Shark. I've said this before, it happens all the time, any time a bomb goes up an attacking obstructer runs in with the intention of taking out the defender. All he has to do is look up at the ball while keeping his eye on the defender. He should've been sin binned.
If that's the most controversial decision of the year then we are in for a stellar year in the bunker.
Correct decision, obviously correct decision. Where is the controversy??

Should have been a penalty try as Ponga took out Rudolph in a try scoring position!!
