The Tri Nations trophy is up for grabs and both Argentina and New Zealand can go a long way to sealing the tournament when they face off in Newcastle today. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:45pm (AEDT).

With two games of the competition left to play, all three teams are sitting level on six points with a chance of taking out first place. The All Blacks have only today’s match left to wrap up the title, while Los Pumas are playing in both of the remaining games of the season.

As such, the Argentinians have their destiny firmly in their own hands: win both matches and they’ll be crowned champions.

However, a bonus-point win for New Zealand would wrap things up today and render next week’s final game between Argentina and Australia fairly superfluous thanks to the All Blacks’ excellent for and against.

There’s no guarantee of that result, or even of a Kiwi win today – they were shocked two weeks ago by the Pumas, who registered their first-ever win over New Zealand when they met at Bankwest Stadium.

That defeat has spurred Ian Foster into making three changes to his XV. While the backline is the same, all of Nepo Laulala, Scott Barrett and Akira Ioane have been added to the run-on pack.

Mario Ledesma, meanwhile, has made a massive ten changes to his starting side for their third game in as many weeks. Flyhalf Nicolas Sanchez, who has scored all of Los Pumas points this competition so far, Julian Montoya, Guido Petti, Marcos Kremer and captain Pablo Matera are the only players to have kept their spots in the side from last week’s draw with the Wallabies and, indeed, the win over New Zealand.

Not too confronting for me, it was the type of thing that I/we loved in our playing days, but little Johnnies mum who sends him to after school childcare is going to look at that and say “ooh, can’t have little johnnie hurt we better make him play soccer, this rugby is too brutal”. I was talking about the advertisement it gives for rugby and I’m pretty sure I saw he still hadn’t wiped it before the press conference, changed his shirt but didn’t clean his face, that’s just ego. . “are you going to play football this year Johnnie”

Agreed Jacko, but Ioane's had a pretty good Mitre 10 cup. He's becoming more consistent in my view and he should be there or thereabouts for the experience I believe. Perofeta's played very well also.

I like the Havili call. Bad timing with injuries in the past.

I like bbb at 15 with that extra space to make something out of not much. I like a cruden type 10 so right now that’s Mo’unga. I find it very hard to drop bbb to the bench. I thought if bbb plays 10 he needs an sbw at 12. I’m surprised bbbb and laumape didn’t work. I like pace at 15 so not prepared to replace bbb with his bro.

I guess we see different things…For example I dont see the Ireland loss or the WC loss as major ABs declines…I see the rest of the world has made some massive strides forward and Ireland results at the time showed that. They faded off pretty quickly tho and had gone by the time the WC came around…Which really surprised…..But I think England have made major improvements and I dont see them fading for some time… We are argueing different things paulo….You are argueing BBs demise…Im argueing RM has never reached the ability of a BB And you are saying RM was selected because of BBs demise Im saying Mounga was selected as a response to injury… Yep…happy to agree to disagree

he was shifted to 15 at the end of 2018…..Now when did this decline in winning the big matches start happening? I don’t know, maybe 2016 and Ireland in Chicago? Or do we consider the Lions series in 2017? Either one is way before RM even took the field. And mounga has clearly been a major part of the decline Considering the above dates and when RM started playing in the ABs, I think it’s a stretch to suggest he is a major part. Certainly, as the starting 10 since ‘19 he is a part, but this has been years in the making. A larger factor is the development and improvement of the rush defences that have helped stifle BBs flair and attacking. This is where the game now is, not where it was when BB was having his way with any team we played. The space he once enjoyed is gone from the 10s position, he gets it back at FB. We won’t agree on this, it’s ok. The only opinion that matters is the selectors and the coach as they are the decision makers.

Far out paulo.......RM was the 10 for the whole of 2019....How successful was 2019 for the ABs? Dmac was injured so did not typically come on at all...And prior to the injury it was BB 10 Dmac 15 so it was not Dmac that came on. So it was everyone elses fault? There is nothing factually incorrect sorry paulo Ill continue to like BB as the 10 and you can feel free to like Mounga as your preferred 10....All good!

So, up until just before the World Cup, The usual practice was BB starting 10 and only shifted to 15 late in the game. RM wasn’t the usual replacement during the AB decline. BB was the starting 10, and DMac typically came on after. You placing the blame for this decline on Mo’unga is just factually incorrect.

It was a joke at the ridiculous commentary before hand. At the moment they are a good team with a good coach....still a lot of work to become a great team with a great coach.

2020-11-29T01:58:50+00:00

Paulo Mounga was given his first start V arg in Arg 2018 when Dmacs grandmother died and Dmac went home for her funeral….Dmac then re joined the tour for the SA match where Mounga played at 10 again…Dmac did not play that match. Dmac then was the 15 for the eoyt in 2018 and mounga was coming off the bench or not in the side. So that was 2 matches for Mounga at 10 at the end of 2018 but not the eoyt….. What we will never know is how good would BB have been if he was left at 10? What would world rugby be saying about BB now? BB was always the best option at 10 but the coaches put him to 15 After Dmac got injured and have not had a better option since as the duel play maker role. I hate that BB isnt able to be the best player he can be because the selectors decided he is their best 15 option so why not have Mounga at 15…..or at 23? After all they did that to BB… Just let us see BB at his position again for a season then decide who the best 10 is but with BBs 2 WRPOTY awards I dont see it being RM.

You have the dates wrong or a misrepresenting them. RM only got his AB debut mid ‘18. And like most debutants, he was coming off the bench at the end of games. He got his first start against Argie in Sept ‘18 and did so well he got preference over DMac. But he was not starting on the EOYT in ‘18. This was still BB and Dmac for the most part. The decline of the ABs started before RM even had a game (Lions ‘17) let alone a start for the ABs, or when he was still a bench warmer (EOYT ‘18). If you want to lay the blame for the AB decline on the replacement fly half, rather than a lack of forward dominance and the starting fly half, I can’t stop you. But it just doesn’t add up, does it? The duel playmaker role as a regular feature only happens right before the World Cup, with the game in Wellington against the Boks the first time they started with that set up. https://i.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/all-blacks/114454050/all-blacks-name-richie-mounga-at-10-beauden-barrett-at-15-for-south-africa-clash

Gloria you are, as usual full of it...You are the one who runs away and changes your name when your team loses...Just incase you dont know I was on here on the sunday morning after the Puma beat NZ praising the efforts of the Puma and rubbishing the efforts of the ABs....maybe if you were on here too you would know that..... So full of __it

Paulo you know he was shifted to 15 at the end of 2018.....Now when did this decline in winning the big matches start happening? And mounga has clearly been a major part of the decline....Mounga can do stuff of legends but he has to manny errors in his decision making....As last night just proved again..... As for the duel system working well I saw way to many people taking the duties of a 10 last night and I dont see having JB, BB and Mounga sharing the goal, goal line, and general field kicking as being good for them. If RM is the 10 then let him sink or swim as the 10 .https://www.rugbypass.com/news/beauden-barrett-was-building-a-legacy-to-match-carter-and-now-has-become-an-all-blacks-afterthought/
