Super Rugby Aotearoa is back for its second season, and the Highlanders will kick proceedings off when they host the Crusaders at Forsyth Barr Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores from 5:05pm (AEDT).

It seems no matter the Super Rugby format, the Crusaders will always be right in contention for silverware. Certainly the first iteration of the Aotearoa competition went to script, with the Christchurch outfit claiming the title.

The Highlanders, on the other hand, struggled in 2020, but did improve after the Covid break. They have bolstered their squad for this season, too, and have named former All Black Liam Squire to come off the bench tonight.

It’s an imposing side they’re going up against. While the Crusaders are missing fullback and vice-captain David Havili, they still boast a run-on XV featuring Will Jordan, Sevu Reece, Jack Goodhue, Richie Mo’unga, Sam Whitelock and Codie Taylor.

They also benefit from the return of captain Scott Barrett in the second row, after he missed all of the 2020 Aotearoa season through injury.

the fact that there is no evidence, is evidence of a conspiracy, to some.

I finally realised it was a build up of all the little “hangs” that my wifi, living rurally, gives to Stan. I was about three minutes behind by the end of the game.

Yea, will be good if they stay consistent on that through the season, I’m mindful that they will crack down for a few weeks then ease up. The rush defences most teams use these days mean players are almost always borderline, or flagrantly, offside. Keeping a bit of space can only be good for attractive rugby.

Well, the speed of the actions probably determine that rather than the producers. I’m not sure this is evidence of a conspiracy.

The Clan. Such poor set piece. Argh. The are also still as flagrant with opportunities as ever. A more gritty team like the Canes would never have given the Saders such a break.

It was good fun to watch as always. But too bad the Landers used Micheal Hooper's "strategy" regarding kicking for goal.

Pity the Highlanders tight forwards got rolled. Good to see Squire back though.

For the Crusaders the TV producers can zoom in to detect the knock on by the Highlanders while the try on the line by the Crusaders is blurred.
