Super Rugby Pacific Rond 13 continues with a crucial match as the NSW Waratahs take on the Hurricanes at Leichhardt Oval, Sydney with both sides battling it out for a top four spot. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:45pm AEST.

The fifth placed Tahs have made just one change to their run on side this week as Hugh Sinclair joins the starting fifteen in the second row.

Michael Hooper is still unavailable and so Charlie Gamble will start at openside and Will Harris and Rahboni Warren-Vosayaco will form the rest of an impressive back row.

There’s some welcome strength on the bench as Ned Hanigan and Paddy Ryan rejoin the Tahs and bring some Wallabies experience to the team.

The NSW backline is unchanged and the centres pairing of Lalakai Foketi and Izaia Perese will have important roles to play in both defence and attack.

The Canes have made more changes to their side, with some players having to miss out due to enforced rest weeks. Up front James Blackwell is back into the second row and Ardie Savea returns to the number eight position. Seeing him up against the Tahs back row will be a great sub plot of this match.

TJ Perenara is rested and so Jamie Booth is back in at scrum half. This isn’t the usual downgrade that one might have thought from previous seasons as TJ has struggled to find his best form this year.

Jordie Barrett is back and into the centres meaning that Billy Proctor shifts to the bench, Julian Savea is on the wing and Bailyn Sullivan will join Barrett in the centres. Seeing those two up against Foketi and Perese is going to be compelling.

There are just three points separating fourth and seventh place on the competition ladder and with the number of games left running out, this is a truly important game for both sides to win, and win well.

Harris is still in his first proper full season and hopefully Coleman made him watch Ardie's performance to see how a world class number 8 plays.

When I.Perese was moving out of the WB U20 into the Reds team, his knee blew up and he was cactus for nearly 18 months. Returned and played on the wing for the Reds for around 10-12 games then went over to the dark side at the Broncos. I think the partying got to him, he never got out of their reserves team so he came back to Union. Thorn wouldn't have a bar of him with his drugs rap, so he went to the Tahs on a very low $ contract. The bloke has grown up a lot since those days (now about 25) and is starting to show the promise from when he was 19 years old. His passing has improved out of sight under D.Colemen and if he can get his defence reads right, he will definitely get into the WB. Though the WB outside centre at the moment, Len Ikitau, has got a wonderful rugby brain, just needs 5 more cm and 5-10 kg to be a real force. Add in Jordan Petaia and the WB look pretty good for the #13 shirt for many years to come. :silly:

Harry, Will Harris has the work ethic of that bloke in Houso on tv. :silly:

No worries. There was an article about him in the NZ media (originally from the SMH though) a couple of weeks ago. If you Google his name I'm sure you'll find it. He was a schoolboy star in Christchurch 1st XV rugby too.

Thanks so much for filling me in on his history. It's a great story!

Cheers OB. It’s reassuring that ‘mature’ eyes see similar things. Eric Grothe? The Bulldozer? I have other memories of him. I really like the guts and elusiveness of Pietsch, but I confess that I don’t remember a Grothe sidestep. Size, power and untackleable horizontal body height scored many tries.

Yep, know full well about brother's cousins etc. At least, the gambol is on the coaches now that Gamble's had this opportunity, to show his wares. I like Peitsch - he runs like an Eric Grothe avatar and the no-look back-hand pass from Perese - just outta this world stuff. Need to see more but perhaps not - that MCL injury, looks like a few weeks off. Yep about Swinton.

Yes Coleman has put a bunch of guys together and created a team with real desire. Their attacking courage and skill frankly shocks me. How was Holloway’s wide torp pass? And the Perese Pietsch one two punch? I avoid mention of Gamble. His quality is utterly obvious, but mentioning it here attracts comment from his primary school teacher’s brother’s cousins who come on here to remind us where his egg was hatched. :silly: He is not Wallaby eligible as yet I believe. (And I’m not assuming he’’d swap passports either). But he is a talent worth consideration certainly. Hooper will have less to do next test season, the way our 7 depth is shaping up. Swinton I am not up to date with but he may have already been superseded in a hot race for the gold 6.

Gees, the replacement hooker looked good - at least, I think he's up there with Fainga; and how about Gamble - what's the matter with Swinton??

Thanks Digger, but luck had little to do with it. Tahs did all they could with what they had. Professor Coleman now has some vivid reference points for the next tutorial. Tahs did a lot right. But a lot was not enough. The Canes had more of the ‘enough’ required. But the Tahs are marching, and mustering a statewide tribe (gathering at Leichardt) and a sky blue sun shines on the road ahead.

You misunderstand my point Ken. I agree with you wholeheartedly. I’m worried the game fails it’s players if we don’t run HIA protocols when appropriate, and if you’re hit in the head significantly enough to merit a card, it’s appropriate. He should have gone off. Just like anybody else hit in the head except it’s more/most obvious when the incident merits a card

Interesting OB, that early game scrum was impressive. But Holloway looks to be the only gold addition atm. Who was that Gleeson fella?. He’s got something.

Oz, I agree that Barrett milked it, to ensure that TMO got involved, but we need not have an injury before we sanction risky behaviour. We need to set up protection for players BEFORE injuries occur. A bit like speeding fines in poorly signed school zones. Punishing after the event, is not providing the same benefit as preventing the event in the first place.

Congrats Digsy - a real gutsy effort from your lads but I'd also like to give a shout out to whoever is responsible for the team's fitness levels....I mean, on a heavy, sodden paddock, your team just went to the next fitness level....mind boggling.

I would think a few more from that Tahs pack will be wearing a test jersey this season.
