'How's that not a penalty try?': Former AB sounds off at 'incredible injustice' in NPC semi-final

By The Roar / Editor

Former All Black Justin Marshall wanted a penalty try and a player in the bin for this “errant tackle”. While it might not have affected the result – Otago comfortably winning through to the National Provincial Championship final – was it wrongly adjudicated?

Thanks for looking. Maybe a qualified ref would be better.

I can't find it either but I distinctly remember Gordon Bray talking about it

Hi Boosho, I looked in the Laws for that, but my key words failed me (I looked for "penalty try" and "foul" and found nothing). Can you help please? Genuine question.

Marshal again at his best  Sounds like he needs a rest, forget about the players as he sounds tired! and a grumpy self indulgent man.

When foul play occurs, that player takes themselves out of the contest. When considering a penalty try, it's as if they were not there at all.

Does anyone know - has Justin Marshall done the referee's course? Yellow card. 5m out was too far out from the tryline with the tackler there.

"There's no-one there, there's no defender there." Well, except for the defender who was there and grabbed the supposed try scorer by the collar... Def penalty and obvious yellow card, but over 5m out, no way you can say a try would probably have been scored if he'd been allowed to catch the ball before being tackled.
