yep they step up to the mark then step back 2 metres to look like they will kick from the mark and step over it buy 2-3 metres almost every time.....Understand your frustration
Jacko,
Something I have been griping about for years now is the way penalty-kicks for touch are NEVER taken from on or behind the mark!!!
That is something even at schoolboy level you wouldn't have gotten away with forty years ago but is always overlooked nowadays.
Refs nitpick about tiny little things sometimes, (and maybe,) maybe this is one of them but there doesn't ever seem to be consistency.
Yeah we often hear the ref checking this sort of detail with the TMO or his assistants. They are expected to work as a team but on this occasion, not very well.
I don’t care whether the refs got it wrong or whether it was a great kick. What is the point in of rewarding relatively minor infringements or indeed anything with three point kicks inside the defending half, let alone outside of about 30 metres from goal. There is no logic or need for it, and it just wastes a lot of time.
I disagree. While the referee may have given the advantage earlier further back. In this video when he walks back and makes the penalty mark (at the 9 sec mark) it is almost exactly where Barret kicks from. I don't think you can blame Barrett if the referee changed the place of the penalty
Ben the men upstars do have a lot to do with that. In a long "advantage" they are there to ensure the ref restarts from the correct position. They got it wrong by 12m....Barrett would not have even attempted it from 70m out
Ben what you say is all true but it does not change the fact that the Refs got the kick position around 12-13m further upfield than where the penalty advantage was first given...
Jcmasher the penalty advantage was given around 8M out from the 22 yet the kick was taken from outside the 40 so Gatland etc were 100% right in what they said. The penalty is at least 10m closer to the posts than it should have been and more lickely 12-13m. That is the difference between kicking it and not kicking it. Go watch it again please but the irony of you saying Gatland is whinging while you whinge is funny. Im no gatland fan but dont rubbish him for being 100% correct.
As usual though in any criticism of the refs theres plenty of stuff the other way the opposition can claim...eg Sam Canes no arms, blindside, late charge on Perenara. Ref just called it late only, penalty only!!! Whaat?? That was a card all day...no mention by Gatland and co.
Even the commentators couldnt believe that one and compared it to Scraftons yellow and Canes "just a penalty" as extremly lucky for Cane.

It was Neil Barnes and yes Paulo it was regarding where the penalty was taken from.

I think Don Clarke would have a smile on his face, after watching this one.

It's almost 10m ahead of where he originally gave the penalty.

Well "the men upstairs" have no control over that....only the touchies.

I thought those comments were in relation to the penalty spot for Barrets kick, but could be wrong.
