Brisbane Roar and Central Coast Mariners do battle on Saturday afternoon at Suncorp Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match starting from 5pm (AEDT).

Brisbane go into the match aiming to bounce back from last weekend’s disappointing 2-1 loss at Wellington Phoenix.

Robbie Fowler’s men failed to build on their stirring comeback win against Melbourne City, which remains their only victory in six rounds this season.

They will look to the hat-trick hero that day Roy O’Donovan to score the goals to give them a much-needed home win.

Finding the net has been an issue for the Roar this term and they are the only A-League side this season who have failed to score in the opening 45 minutes.

They will looking to break that unwanted record against a Central Coast side they hold an impressive record against – the last time the Mariners got the better of the Roar in the A-League was back in April 2014.

Fowler has a fully fit squad to choose from, with only long term injury victim Jack Hingert omitted from his matchday squad.

The Mariners go into the clash buoyed by their 1-0 win against Western United which lifted them to sixth on the ladder.

Giancarlo Gallifuoco’s deflected strike gave them the points and also saw them claim a first clean sheet in almost two years.

The two sides met earlier in the year in the FFA Cup, with the Central Coast prevailing on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

A goalscorer that day was Sam Silvera, and Coast fans will hope the youngster will continue his impressive start this season, with his pace and trickery bound to cause problems for the Roar backline.

Prediction
Brisbane have been slow starters so far this term and the Central Coast will look to catch them cold.

I’m backing the front pairing of Silvera and DeSilva to have too much for the Roar and take the three points back to Gosford.

Great to have Jamie back. He's boss, owns his goal and organizes (bosses) his defenders into doing their job. No lazy defenders with Jamie in goal, but also hard not to be impressed with the Roar youngsters, Dylan WH full of enthusiasm and get-go, always looking to score, and Jordan Courtney Perkins solid in defence but also some lovely passes. Even impressed with Jai Ingham when he came on, he's a big lad and uses his size to his advantage. Credit to RF for admitting it wasn't working and that he had to make some changes. They've still got a lot of work to do, especially in midfield, but that was a positive step. He'll need to work out how to start both Izaack Powell and Jordan C-P.

I was impressed by Wenzel Halls play. He likes to run at defenders and combined with his pace, his crossing ability makes him a danger man. One to watch as he gains more experience.

Full time: Brisbane Roar 2 Central Coast Mariners 0 Brisbane Roar gave coach Robbie Fowler a much needed home win with two unanswered second half goals as they overcame Central Coast Mariners. Roy O’Donovan’s strike on the hour and a header from defender Scott Neville gave the hosts the points which lifts them into sixth spot. For the first time this season, the Roar were quick out of the blocks and pinned the Mariners back in their own half. But it was Central Coast who came close to taking the lead with their first meaningful attack. Eunsun Kim’s shot rebounded off the crossbar with Jamie Young beaten. Fowler handed a first start to Dylan Wenzel Halls and the youngster didn’t disappoint with an energetic display. It was his cross that picked out Roy O’Donovan who beat Mariners keeper Mark Birighitti to open the scoring. The Roar doubled their advantage seven minutes later when Jay O’Shea’s corner picked out Scott Neville, and he rose highest to plant his header home. The Roar were able to see out the remaining twenty minutes without too much trouble to secure three points which lifts them to sixth on the table. For the Mariners, they drop to eighth and sit out next weeks round of fixtures with a bye. The Roar travel to take on Sydney FC.

Fowler was effusive in his praise for both Dylan Wenzel Halls and Jamie Young who made their first starts of the season today. "We asked Jamie to work on his kicking in pre season, and to be fair his attitude has been first class'. 'He deserved his chance, his kicking is much improved now and he was very composed and assured today'. 'With Dylan his injury in pre season knocked him back and hes been playing catch up with his fitness'. 'Dylan was exciting and a bit more lively than what we've had in the last few weeks'. 'Both players deserved their chance and they absolutely took it'. Roar 2 Mariners 0

Alen Stajcic was clearly a frustrated figure as he refused to dwell on the officials performance. 'We were slow out of the blocks but as the half wore we started to make chances'. 'The game was there for the taking and we're very disappointed'. Robbie Fowler coming up Roar 2 Mariners 0

Alen Stajcic was clearly an unhappy man with today's match officials. It will be interesting to get his take on it. Just waiting for the Mariners boss to make his post match appearance. Roar 2 Mariners 0
