Brisbane Roar can climb back atop the A-League ladder with a win over Macarthur FC tonight in Redcliffe. Follow the action with live scores on The Roar from 7:35pm (AEDT).
The Roar are the hottest team in the league right now. After dropping their first game of the season, Warren Moon’s men have won four on the bounce and will fancy their chances of a fifth-straight victory at home against the competition’s newest side.
Macarthur have been about as middle-of-the-road as possible: two wins, two draws and two losses so far this year. However, the newbies will be buoyed by the return of captain Mark Milligan tonight, after he missed their last outing, a 2-2 draw with the Wanderers, due to suspension.
Kick-off: 7:35pm (AEDT)
Venue: Dolphin Stadium

Lionheart -playing a totally defensive game has nothing to do with who is the "better side". It was obvious last night that the opponent had a strategy that aimed at keeping their opponent off the score sheet and this they did albeit by the width of a goalpost. Had Roar got a goal then the outcome could have been totally different. That is not the basic problem at Roar. No one appeared to "read" what was happening, with the result the overall team effort to break down the opponents tactic appeared fragile all night and by games end had totally disintegrated. The "lobbed "goal was not as some hint, the keepers fault, why that young centreback tried to head a pass across the path of an opponent when he could have kicked the ball anywhere will only go down as a bad memory. The first goal was a cross to a man who was totally unmarked in a danger area. There is noting in those two goals that spell out "better team", there is a message, and it is your team has to improve it's defending, if not it's scoring efforts. As I said before, lots of work still to be done. Cheers jb.

Can't say McArthur were the better side JB, Roar created many more chances. Obvious with the wind, but my point is that when Roar started to chase the game, moving more men including he keeper up field, like in the last 20 minutes, conditions by far favored the team with the wind behind them. I think a lesson Moon is still to learn, just as Ange had to at the WC, is use of the squad when matches are close together. No changes to the starting lineup after just three day break seems odd to me.

Lionheart- My friend, the wind is a common factor to both teams and therefore cannot be used as an excuse for one of the participants. As I've said before this Roar squad has the making of a good football team, it is in the tactical side of the game they are still a bit naive in execution. Last night we again saw team changes that left onlookers wondering, was it an occasion to take off the only player that appeared to be worrying Milligan and co, DWH, and replace him with a man yet to experience our football. The "trialist" who was playing in right midfield appeared to be going OK but he too was replaced resulting in a weakening of the "right side defence". One goal later the whole structure fell apart resulting in the second goal. Still some serious decision making to take place. Cheers jb..

cheers JB. Rudan did that with his WU club last year v Roar at Suncorp. WU were far more dramatic and pronounced in their go slow tactics than Macarthur last night. I think you're overlooking the effect of 30-40 knots of wind too. Conditions, worse in the first half, were challenging for both sides, but particularly for the side chasing the points.

cool and cold - How right you are .The simplest of coaching manuals will tell you all defensive moves, and for that matter all attacking moves, should always be undertaken and accomplished by 3 members of a team. As you say one man on the ball (or attempting to win it) and the other two acting as cover and balance. It is this fact of football life that has seen in recent top leagues the move away from dribbling and "taking on" men ,and the use of fast ball movement and fast player movement coming to the fore. Well spotted. Cheers jb

Lionheart - You are probably the wrong age but Millicic did not devise that plan, between the years 1957 and 1967 it was used in Italy of all places and christened "Catenaccio". Inter Milan were probably the best exponents of the "plan" but it became so widespread it almost destroyed the Serie A as thousands stayed away from the game due to the boredom it created. The idea was based simply on the fact that 1 point was better than none so visiting teams came to a ground with one thing in mind .stop the other team scoring, using fair means or foul. That's what happened last night and to add insult to injury the visitors scored 2 goals by virtue of some pathetic, inexperienced, defending, so went away with 3 points. This is one of the difficulties facing young inexperienced coaches, they have never seen the "plan" played to such perfection and last night the visitors reaped the benefits. Can it be countered? Yes, in 1967 the "plan" was shattered in the European Cup final when Inter were run off the park by a team that had pace to burn and that set to rights catenaccio for it no longer was seen as the guarantee to win games. Last night Roar fell into the trap of keeping possession and slowing their own attack accordingly ,in fact doing exactly what the opponent desired. It's all a learning curve. Cheers jb.

Conditions determined this game. There was a fifty knot gale blowing for much of the match, straight down the pitch although it swirled on occasions. Roar had it behind them in the first half and didn't adjust well - lots of long balls going much longer. They created lots of chances but some weak shooting didn't cut it. Roar were happy to stand back and watch MacArthur pass it around. They are no big deal, but they defended ok and kept Roar out so in the end Roar was chasing the game into the wind, playing up high and Macarthur, with the wind behind them, took advantage. I don't think Millicic is smart enough to have devised that as a game plan, he looks like a details coach watching him, but that game plan worked. Make Roar chase the game, opened them up wide and with a strong wind behind you, up goes the spinnaker and you'll not be caught. Well done to Macarthur. Roar needs to get those goals, even though I thought DWH and Riku Denzaki were the best players on the park and a little unlucky not to have scored. A well known journo tweeted boring match - actually loved the match in extremely tricky conditions. It's what makes our game so interesting.

School boy errors. When Hingert was marking all other 20 players were watching a show. Why would not there a BR player move forward to support or cover? One on one is not defense, there should always be other teammates to cover or support.

Roar have a superior shot difference, but they’ve been firing blanks. After last week’s thrashing, Brisbane seem well & truly milked. The cow bells will be ringing tonight!
