Two of the A-League’s most in form sides lock horns in Redcliffe as the Brisbane Roar look to seal a finals berth against the Perth Glory. Stay up to date with mid-week A-League action right here on The Roar with live scores from 7:05pm (AEST).

A 2-0 loss to the Wanderers on Sunday has left the Roar’s position in the top six looking suddenly shaky. Having appeared home and hosed when they thrashed premiers Melbourne City the week prior, now would be a bad time for a drop-off in form.

The Glory’s charge to the finals has slowed with consecutive draws in the last two weeks, giving up a late equaliser to the Phoenix’s Jaushua Sotirio to blow a vital three points on Sunday. Even two wins in their final two matches may not be enough to force their way in, but victory here would leave them just one point behind the Roar and primed to pounce on a slip-up in the final round.

JB, Why are you so persistent on "a back 3"? You have been talking about this week in and week out for the whole season. Please do not talk about it next season. Next season! Okay? Recently, Brisbane Roar has been playing the modified version of 3-4-3. They play at the start 5-2-3. "A back 3" is not new anymore in A-league. Many teams play it. Macarthur FC: 3 4 3 – 14 May 2021 https://www.a-league.com.au/match/macarthur-fc-v-melbourne-victory-a-league-14-05-2021/2176890#!/lineups Western United: 3 4 3 – 15 May 2021 https://www.a-league.com.au/match/western-united-fc-v-sydney-fc-a-league-15-05-2021/2176858#!/lineups Newcastle Jets: 3 4 3 – 15 May 2021 https://www.a-league.com.au/match/newcastle-jets-v-central-coast-mariners-a-league-15-05-2021/2176831#!/lineups WSW: 3 4 3 – 16 May 2021 https://www.a-league.com.au/match/perth-glory-v-western-sydney-wanderers-fc-a-league-16-05-2021/2176944#!/lineups "3 at the back" is not new; Socceroos played decades ago. You should remember.

jb your glass half full analysis continues to grate. Roar are currently third and deserve praise for that achievement irrespective of where CCM and Victory are, because a lot of the pundits had them forecasted to be bottom three contenders. As for your comment or non comment on Moon, just give him his days in the sun after a long season because he has earned it. I would like to think Moon is using his time at Brisbane Roar to improve and eventually move on to better things.

BT - Thank you for the reply. I have the details you have asked for regarding past performances but to be honest I see no real gain in analysing former coaches records as vindication for what is happening today. Fowler ,like AP before him ,brought a new system of play with him, one used widely across the world today, roughly known as " a back 3". He brought 5 players with him to help in his task, 2 centre-backs,2 midfielders and one striker. Unfortunately ,for Fowler. one of the midfielders and the central striker never quite worked and Roar fans were left with a new system that could best be described as "half successful".(last years goals against the best indicator.) You mention Roar in 3rd position, that may be so but then this season teams like CCM have led the league for weeks whilst former trend setters Victory have held up the rest. So what?, it's been a funny old year. To get to the point of your comment. I don't know, nor have ever spoken to Warren Moon, so have never criticised him directly, but one thing I can tell him confidently, in our football, or any football, a coach is very fortunate to get 3 seasons to instil his thoughts. Now to my "mate" Lionheart". I have nothing but admiration for his loyalty to Roar but he and I have used this forum for some time now to air our views and although at time it may seem different, there is no malice in my comments towards him. As I have said in the past I wish there were another 10,000 like him. Cheers jb.

JB- no the comment wasnt aimed at you, but since youve decided to enlighten me with your goals scored/conceded per game ratio stats, prehaps you could enlighten me where the Roar sat this time of the year for the previous 5 seasons ? Or how many goals they conceded under John Aloisi’s last season in charge ? Despite the goals scored or conceded the Roar are sitting 3rd. Let that sink in for a minute. Roar are currently a work in proccess under Moon, this is his first full season, hes given opportunities to youth and at times theyve played some excellent football and at times theyve had to grind the result out. Nodifferent to any other team around the world competing for honours. Yet you and others complain every week. All i simply stated in my original comment and i stand by it, given time ie at least 3 seasons, Warren Moon will prove everyone wrong on this forum. So take your medication and stop being so paranoid and passive aggressive everytime someone like Lionheart makes a comment that doesnt resonate with your views on the game....oh, and try supporting the team for a change....and yes those comments are aimed you

BT - Don't know if your comment was aimed at me but if it was let me spell out some facts for your perusal. Brisbane Roar have played 25 games this season, scoring 36 goals while conceding 26 goals giving them an average score per game of 1.44 to 1.04. At the time of writing they are lying 3rd in the comp which is led by Melbourne City who over 24 games played are 2.3 goals per game scored, 1.2 goals per game conceded giving an average score per game of 2.3 to 1.2. So despite the good position on the table it is obvious that Roar have difficulty in scoring goals. I would assume the coaching staff would be well aware of that shortcoming and that was all that was implied in my comment to Lionheart for no matter the number of changes made almost weekly to run on teams the problem remains OK?. jb

Its one thing to talk a good game and spout opinions on tactics on an on-line forum, but to actually put a team together, get them to gel and imbedd your playing style is something completely different. Given time, Warren Moon is going to prove a lot of so-called experts wrong on this forum.

Lionheart = A good win ok, one that was needed even if just to get into the top six. "A treat to watch", I wouldn't go as far as saying that for the same old problem was there for all to see, that is, those who want to see. Roar have a problem inherent in their structure, that of converting general play into goals scored and last night's narrow win was aided and abetted with an own goal converted by an opponent. Apart from that there was much to be pleased about not the least of which was the partnership at the back between Trewin and Courtney Perkins. With those two performing well it opens up for the opportunity to play Neville as a wing back, a position he is much more suited to than Brindell-South ,who still gives the impression he would be more comfortable playing as a normal back 3 defender. To me the highlight of the night was the the introduction into midfield of Parsons and his immaculate through ball played to Danzaki who did exceptionally well in turning the dream pass into a goal. Even that posed a question as to why it took so long to play Parsons, as it was obvious that John O'Shea needed help in Roar's mid-field. As I've said to you before there is always questions to be asked after the event and it would be nice to see this team perform at it's optimum this weekend. Cheers jb.

you got to love those comments. It's the Queensland edge, use it. I thought Glory coach and players were highly respectful last night, having watched their post match comments this morning, unusual among A league coaches coming to Dolphins this year.

Don't know what some people are basing their "Brisbane don't deserve to make finals" idea on after Roar are guaranteed top six with a game to spare and +10 goal dif. Just because you had Brisbane written off before the seasons start doesn't mean you need to hold onto that prediction until the end!

Nice win to Roar. And the experts said bottom three. You've got to have faith in this team and Mr Moon. They're a treat to watch, and can only improve in coming seasons.

If Adelaide win (and The Wanderers have nothing to play for) then Wellington have nothing to play for and that should mean an easy win and 4th place for Macarthur.

Adelaide Andy would say Sydney because he's about the right age! He's going to retire - perhaps he'll go caravanning around Australia with the grey nomads.

Sad way to the end the season. Hard to understand how Glory didn't have a better year with the personnel they have. I feel it's a combination of more travel than probably any team in history in a single season, a bit of misfortune, but mostly bad management. Even with international travel, quarantines, months away from home, 8 games in a month etc; they should've picked up a few more points with the depth in their squad. I hope Garcia gets another season, but it's going to be very different from now on without Castro.
