It’s a top-of-the-table blockbuster as the Central Coast Mariners and Adelaide United clash on a Friday night in Gosford. Stay up to date with their A-League clash with live scores on The Roar from 7:40pm (AEDT).

After having led the A-League almost all season, the Mariners are starting to splutter and need to get themselves back on track. A draw with Perth an a loss to Melbourne City wasn’t cause for panic, but an uninspiring draw with last-placed Melbourne Victory was as bad as a loss.

They’ll hope to keep Adelaide – who sit just one point behind them – at bay. The South Australians are in red-hot form, having upped their winning streak to six after knocking off Sydney FC last Sunday and are looking more and more like a proper contender with game.

Previous comments moderated it seems... Just want to draw attention to the mechanics of a tap in. It's when the defense is somewhere else, and a striker has a clear shot at goal. Normally caused by an overload situation where the attacking team creates so much pressure that the defending team is given too many tasks to complete reasonably, or they just give up & watch. Beers then bought for the keeper by the miscreants.

Nisbet was brilliant! He took the match to another level. The Mariner’s looked to be very connected on the field, while the Reds appeared disjointed. Carl Veart’s inexperience as coach is beginning to harm Adelaide. It’ll only get worse in the next few weeks, I’m afraid.

Stop whining over the penalty call for Adelaide. Brenton speed tweeted a response from the VAR after the match concluded which said, the ball had hit kyes hand when it was close to the body and hit his waist then his arm. Stop complaining like a baby and move on like we all had to in the 3-2 game in Adelaide. Now you know how we all felt last time.

tonyiks an adelaide boy, we let him go because he was hanging around with well known criminals in adelaide. He seemed more into impressing them then his football, luckily hes turned his life around

still cant get past the match in adelaide can you? you got to move on mate, constantly bringing up one result virtually every post; shows your fixated on the wrong thing you got 2 pens last night, most of the 50/50 calls and a woeful goalkeeper mistake leading to a tap in, we were denied a pen. Im pretty sure you're more than even. Decisions will always even them out over the course of the season

Lionheart - Take a long hard look at the Roar squad for season 2019 (which includes Tongyik's brief stay) and you will find out of the 26 players listed as available that season, only 5 or 6 were "retained" (which is the correct word)for further action with the team. You hinted that money may have been the problem but looking at the same list you will find that big names (big money) were also discarded, Bauthec, Kristensen, Mikkelsen, Taggart, McKay (retired),O'Donovan, Holman, de Vere & Papadopolous, and you can add to that list others who may have been on smaller wages, players like Leck, Duncan, Caletti, Agostino, Lopez, the Ingham brothers, Sawyer , Brady, & Lokolingoy. The Courier Mail reported at that time that up to 17 players would be leaving the club as a "clearout" had been ordered from up top. So you can see why I have questioned your assertion that Tongyik wasn't DISCARDED in favour of a nicer word. Hope you get a win today Cheers jb.

woah – settle down JB. You can call it discarded if you like, I say that is far too harsh for a player signed as an injury replacement by a club that already had the position well covered (there were no other defenders signed or contracts renewed in lieu of Tongyik). I tweeted during the game that I wished we’d kept him, but to say Roar discarded him is misleading and yes, a bit rough, no matter which way you look at it.

Square ups don't even stuff out, we should have gotten at least a point from that first game now we're 4 points ahead of you instead of at least 6

Lionheart - Unfair????? You say Tongyik played well at Roar and yet when I say he was discarded by those who decide these things you accuse me of being a "bit rough" citing lack of available money to make his stay permanent. That surely is internal business of which you have little or no access and I'm quite sure there are players in the present Roar squad that could have been "discarded" to make salary cap room for a talent like Tongyik. No??? Cheers jb

Popavalium =According to his playing record he never actually played in Adelaide's first team though he appears to have played for them in the NPL. After being ignored by the Adelaide Utd A-League side the lad moved on so starting his a-league journey, hence my 4 club description but, you are right, he has been at 5 A-League clubs. Cheers . jb

Go back through the posts of the match in adelaide at the start of the year. I said several times in posts, decisions have a way of evening themselves out over the course of then season. 2 pens given to you and we were denied one tonight. That evens it up from the first match la decisions

Talk to Tomi Juric about shooting fish in a barrel. The man can only score through penalties. Checkmate, golden calf. Adelaide: pretenders, wannabes, & false idols.

to be fair JB, Tongyik played well at Roar and discarded may be a bit rough. He was an injury replacement from memory, and Mariners offered more than Roar could pay with the signings already at the back.
